Fujifilm's upcoming X-E5 has appeared in an increasing number of leaks leading up to the expected June 12 launch, with previous leaks suggesting that the new compact APS-C camera will feature the same internals as the Fujifilm X100VI and the X-T50, including IBIS. Now, however, a new leak out of Fuji Rumors indicates that the Fujifilm X-E5 will be much more like the X-T50 and X-M5 than the X100VI.
Fujifilm X-E5 - retro design with a film simulation dial
The most recent leak about the X-E5 all but confirm that Fujifilm will equip the new retro-styled APS-C camera with the same film simulation dial as found on the X-T50 and X-M5. The experimental new dial first made its appearance on the Fujifilm X-T50, and its reception was a bit of a mixed bag, with some decrying the simplified UI, while others liked that it made it easy to access what makes the Fujifilm shooting experience unique.
It seems as though Fujifilm is trying to continue its push into the social media user base by leaning into the film simulation dial, but the inclusion of the previously experimental dial also means the X-E5 will have effectively the same hardware as the X-T50, which means that previous speculation that the X-E5 would be subject to a price increase may be on the money. Compared to the X-T30 II that it supposedly replaced, the X-T50 (curr. $1,399.99 on Amazon) saw a price increase of $500, putting the X-T50 squarely in the mid-range price bracket, where the X-T30 II was previously much more entry-level.
The same change in positioning and pricing now seems likely when it comes to the X-E5, while the next-generation X-Pro will seemingly deliver the "pure photography experience" that Fujifilm has previously spoken about.
