Nintendo has tacitly reconfirmed that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is expected to release on its handheld platforms some time in 2025 by featuring the title as one of the playable demos at Fan Expo Canada.

Nintendo has reconfirmed that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is still on track for a 2025 release window. The upcoming release was reaffirmed in a recent blog post by Nintendo of Canada, where the company has invited fans to attend Fan Expo Canada in Toronto, Ontario, between August 21 to 24, 2025.

According to the blog post, “Fan Expo attendees will be able to play upcoming games like Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (available later in 2025).”

Not only will fans get to enjoy a hands-on demo of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, but other upcoming Switch 2 titles like Hades II, Borderlands 4, and Elden Ring Tarnished Edition. Furthermore, attendees will also experience already released titles like Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza, and Street Fighter 6 Years 1-2 Fighters Edition.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond was initially announced at E3 2017 and is finally nearing completion after a bumpy development period that followed a full reboot in 2019 under Retro Studios. The game was previously spearheaded by Bandai Namco, but Nintendo decided to reboot the project over quality concerns.

In addition, long-time series producer Kensuke Tanabe remains onboard. Back in 2015, Tanabe spoke in an interview and shared that he had plenty of ideas for the game, including time-shifting mechanics akin to Metroid Prime 2: Echoes.

On July 25, 2025, the South Korean Classification Board rated Metroid Prime 4: Beyond for the Nintendo Switch 2 via the Game Rating and Administration Committee. The game has been rated suitable for players aged 12 and up, stating “mildly violent expressions.”

The rating described the upcoming Metroid game as a “first-person adventure game set on planet Viewros” where Samus encounters an “unexpected situation” after encountering Sylux at a Galactic Federation Research Facility. This is pretty much in line with how Kensuke Tanabe described the storyline in the 2015 interview with Eurogamer:

“The stories of Dark Samus and Phazon are done now. So it was Sylux, another hunter from Metroid Prime Hunters, at the end of Metroid Prime 3. Personally, I'd like to create a story centring around Sylux and Samus. I would like to cross the two over in the future. And of course, see a little more of Samus.”

With the reconfirmation of the game’s release in 2025, it seems a Metroid Prime 4: Beyond release trailer is next in line. Metroid fans everywhere are eager to see what’s in store for Samus Aran’s next chapter.
