After months of speculation, the long-awaited sequel in the Metroid series, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, has got a release date. In addition, Nintendo also shared a new trailer (linked below) at the Direct event that was streamed today, September 12. The game will arrive in December which is in line with Nintendo’s 2025 release timeline, though it never shared an actual release date.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Switch 2 Edition will be released on December 4. The game is available for pre-order via the Nintendo store and is priced at $60. The store listing doesn’t seem to have been updated yet (at the time of writing) as that version is for the original Switch and compatibility with the Switch 2 is listed as “untested.” It does mention the size of the game on both the Switch and the Switch 2 as 28.9 GB. Nintendo seems to be in the process of updating the page as refreshing it breaks the pre-order button.
Regardless, we finally have a release date for the game that has been in development since at least 2017. Originally titled just Metroid Prime 4, the game was updated with the title ‘Beyond’ in 2024 and at the time, the 2025 release date was shared. Since then, Nintendo has showcased demos for the game at various events but the response from some of the players was less than stellar, to say the least.
The Direct event also revealed that “A Visual Retrospective” for Metroid Prime 1 to 3, which seems to be an art book, will be released on October 28. The Samus and Samus & Vi-O-La combo amiibos will be released on November 6, followed by the Sylux amiibo on December 4.
