Lucid adopts Tesla NACS and Elon Musk gloats about it on X
Lucid this week became the latest electric vehicle brand to adopt Tesla's North American Charging Standard (NACS) as the de-facto charging hardware for its electric cars. This means that, starting in 2025, the Lucid Air will be equipped with a NACS port instead of the CCS port on current Lucid Air models. A NACS-to-CCS adaptor (already available for destination chargers on Amazon) will allow existing Lucid owners to access the Tesla Supercharger network in 2025, as well.
While the same shift by other EV brands has been largely uneventful, Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, took to social media platform X (fka Twitter) to gloat about Lucid's adoption of NACS.
That must have been a bitter pill to swallow

Lucid's current CEO, Peter Rawlinson, and Musk have a bit of a sordid history, with Rawlinson having previously worked for Tesla and ultimately leaving the company, sharing some unsavoury words about Musk on the way out. However, it's more likely that Musk is making reference to an earlier comment made by Rawlinson when he was asked about whether Lucid was considering adopting NACS hardware.
At the time, Rawlinson declined to respond directly, instead responding that the infrastructure supporting the charging standard was more important than the plug itself, insisting that high-voltage and future proofing were more important factors to consider.
Tesla's V4 Superchargers are expected to adopt a higher voltage, as the recently-confirmed Cybertruck is said to support an 800 V architecture. Either way, Lucid customers only stand to benefit from the company making use of the Supercharger network, since it will make an additional 15,000 chargers available when the hardware starts showing up in the company's cars.
While the rest of the EV industry is adopting NACS, @LucidMotors and CEO Peter Rawlinson are refusing to switch until Tesla enables 1000V DC charging at Superchargers.

Why doesn't Lucid poll their customers to see what they prefer instead of making the decision for them? pic.twitter.com/NfCis75lmG
