JBL has unveiled a new addition to its lineup of headphones. The Endurance Zone are wireless, open-ear headphones, which means they are not inserted into the ear canal or rely on pressure for a secure fit. Instead, they rest on or around the ear. This design is intended to provide a secure fit even when moving, and based on our experience, such headphones can also be more comfortable to wear than regular in-ear headphones, especially for extended periods of time. The open design also means that ambient sounds can be heard clearly, which can be either a distraction or a desired feature. The JBL Endurance Zone allow users to hear a bicycle bell on a shared bike and pedestrian path, for example. Moreover, each earbud sports two microphones to reduce noise for the person on the other end of a call.
The JBL headphones are IP68 certified and resistant to sweat, which isn't an official part of the IP68 standard. The drivers are supposedly able to shed moisture via a special feature called PulseDry, which utilizes certain vibrations. The Endurance Zone earbuds themselves have a battery life of up to eight hours, which can be extended to 24 hours with the included charging case. A ten-minute charge is said to provide enough power for three hours of playback. The JBL Endurance Zone are set to launch in July for £119.
