Huawei has introduced gesture controls to the Watch 3 and Watch 3 Pro, its first smartwatches running Harmony OS 2. The new control features will be available via an update for both smartwatches.

Huawei released the Watch 3 series a few months ago, with the pair being the first run out for Harmony OS 2. Now, the company has added gesture controls to both the Watch 3 and Watch 3 Pro, which will be available in a future update. Huawei has not detailed when this update will be ready, but it has published an overview of the features to expect.

Apparently, it will be possible to raise your wrist to open AliPay, rather than having to press a button or swipe through various screens. Additionally, making a fist and relaxing it will allow you to accept a phone call. Similarly, turning your wrist over will mute an active phone call.

The company stresses that it will not enable these gestures by default. Instead, you must head to the Application Menu, then Settings, Accessibility and finally enable the device's Smart Gesture features. Presumably, Huawei will release these features globally, although it is unclear when that will be.
