Apple continues to roll out iOS 16.3.1 and iPadOS 16.3.1 for eligible iPhones and iPads. The updates introduce several bug fixes for devices running on Apple's stable software distribution branch, with Apple leaving any new features for a major OS revision change. Apple's latest updates did cause a conflict with Google Photos, but an App Store update has now resolved this.

Earlier this week Apple released iOS 16.3.1 and iPadOS 16.3.1, minor updates as their names suggest. According to Apple, the updates should resolve Siri requests for 'Find My' functionality, as well as a bug that caused iCloud settings to display incorrectly or become unresponsive when other apps are accessing iCloud. Additionally, iOS 16.3.1 brought further Crash Detection optimisations for iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models.

Unsurprisingly, iOS 16.3.1 and iPadOS 16.3.1 are comparatively small downloads. For example, the latter is approximately a 158 MB download on an older iPad Pro. However, iOS 16.3.1 is slightly larger at over 300 MB. You can find full iOS 16.3.1 and iPadOS 16.3.1 changes on Apple's dedicated support document.

Initially, websites like 9to5Mac warned against updating to iOS 16.3.1 or iPadOS 16.3.1 because of a Google Photos issue. Google has quickly patched the app though, with Google Photos 6.23.1 resolving any synchronisation and app crash issues. Apple has not released the first iOS 16.4 beta yet, although it is expected to land before the end of the month. Allegedly, the next major iOS and iPadOS software update will contain Apple's revamped HomeKit architecture, which the company removed from iOS 16.2.
