A new rumour from Chiphell talks about Nvidia's upcoming desktop graphics cards. At least two SKUs (RTX 5080 and RTX 5070) will get a Super refresh that will come with an accompanying VRAM upgrade.

Now that most of Nvidia's GeForce RTX 50 series is out and about, discourse about its mid-cycle refreshes has started emerging online. Yes, this is the highly anticipated Super refresh, and it looks like they could arrive with some much-needed VRAM upgrades. A relatively unknown Chiphell leaker mentions the GeForce RTX 5080 Super and RTX 5070 Super directly.

The former will come with 24 GB of VRAM and the latter with 18 GB. Specs-wise, the RTX 5080 Super could end up looking like the RTX 5090 laptop with a GB203 GPU. Performance-wise, it should get close to, if not, trade blows with the RTX 4090 desktop. The RTX 5070 Super is the more interesting model of the lot. Not only does it offer more VRAM than the RTX 5070 Ti, but it will be the first mainstream Nvidia offering to offer 18 GB of video memory.

But, these are unlikely to show up anytime soon. Nvidia typically waits for a year before showing off mid-cycle refresh SKUs, so they won't show up until next year at the earliest. Nevertheless, they should come as a breath of fresh air in an era when VRAM requirements continue to shoot up with every subsequent release.
