Garmin has refreshed its Forerunner series with two new models today. For reference, the Forerunner 970 was already known about it. However, details about the Forerunner 570 only emerged earlier today.
As expected, the Forerunner 570 sits as a cheaper option to the Forerunner 970 while also being more expensive than the existing Forerunner 265 (curr. $349.99 on Amazon). For the time being, it is unclear whether Garmin has a new Forerunner '2' grade model in the works. The Forerunner 570 takes over from the Forerunner 265 in certain areas though, such as its availability in two sizes.
Specifically, Garmin has decided to offer its latest smartwatch in 42 mm and 47 mm sizes compared to the 42 mm and 46 mm options in which the Forerunner 265 is available. Both Forerunner 570 sizes feature AMOLED displays, although there is a 0.2-inch difference in diameter between the pair. The 47 mm variant has the edge when it comes to battery too, but only by a day at 11 days. Similar gaps exist when the pair's GPS modes are activated, which drops to 8 hours for the 47 mm model.
The Forerunner 570 misses out on a few of the features that Garmin bestows on the Forerunner 970, too. For example, the former does not support ECG, nor does it have a dedicated flashlight. Likewise, the Forerunner 570 has a quarter of the Forerunner 970's built-in storage, 8 GB vs. 32 GB, and no turn-by-turn maps support. With that being said, the Forerunner 570 appears to contain Garmion's Elevate V5 heart rate sensor. As it stands, all Forerunner 570 models should be available to order from Garmin's website on May 21 for $549.99.
