Nintendo is giving retro gaming fans another dose of nostalgia. This week, the Game Boy – Nintendo Switch Online app added four classic titles - Gradius: Interstellar Assault, Kirby’s Star Stacker, Survival Kids, and The Sword of Hope. These additions are available to all subscribers of the standard Nintendo Switch Online membership.
Here’s a quick overview of the games that were added -
- Gradius: Interstellar Assault (1991) – A space-faring shoot-’em-up from Konami, this sequel ups the ante with five intense levels, dual-scrolling battlefields, and a buffet of weapons from Ripple Blasts to Ghost Fighters. It’s fast, chaotic, and dripping with 90s sci-fi bravado.
- Kirby’s Star Stacker (1997) – A whimsical yet challenging puzzle game starring everyone’s favorite pink puffbal - Kirby. Players sandwich stars between allies like Rick and Coo while dodging King Dedede’s attempts to ruin the fun. Includes four game modes and battery save support.
- Survival Kids (1999) – A cult classic from Konami, this early survival sim tasks players with staying alive on a mysterious island. Craft tools, uncover secrets, and learn the harsh realities of independence-kid style.
- The Sword of Hope (1989) – This is one of the Game Boy’s earliest RPGs. It puts players in the shoes of a young prince battling to free his kingdom from a dragon-possessed tyrant. Expect classic turn-based combat and plenty of puzzle-solving.
All four games can be accessed through the Game Boy app on Switch. For longtime fans and newcomers alike, it’s yet another solid drop in Nintendo’s ongoing effort to preserve its handheld legacy.
