Terminull Brigade dropped on Steam on July 30 as a free-to-play third-person shooter, and it’s already creating ripples - though not all for the right reasons. Over 2,100 users have left reviews since launch, and the reception so far is, well, mixed.
The game comes from Dead Unicorn, an indie team that’s been working quietly on this for the past two years. There was no early access phase or major beta test. Instead, it went live straight away on July 30 with full online co-op and progression systems in place. Players team up as cybernetic enforcers to take down rogue AI factions in a futuristic city under siege. It's somewhat like Helldivers x Warframe x Overwatch, but a little scrappier and more stripped down.
That said, the game has issues, and that is putting it lightly. Players have reported lag, matchmaking bugs, and balance problems. Some gear feels underpowered, some enemies feel unfair, and the monetization system - which lets you skip gear progression with real money - hasn’t gone down well with the community. While it doesn’t exactly seem pay-to-win, the grindwall has turned some people away early.
Dead Unicorn has already issued two patches that fix early bugs and adjust difficulty spikes, especially in solo play. They've also shared a rough content roadmap promising new factions, more mission types, and a PvP mode, though none of that has a release window yet. Terminull Brigade also offers partial controller support on PC - you can use an Xbox gamepad (curr. $62 on Amazon) for basic gameplay.
It would be unfair to call Terminull Brigade a disappointing game just yet, but it isn’t an easy recommendation either. It’s got solid ideas and a slick design profile - but unless the devs stay quick on their feet, this one might not stick around for too long.
