Oh so special. Dell introduces the new and completely redesigned Inspiron notebooks - including two SE (Special Edition) models - the Inspiron 15R SE and 17R SE. Aluminum accent panels for the chassis, a more powerful graphics card and a better display all help differentiate the SE models from the standard.

Dell brings together a beautiful 1080p 15-inch display, a Blu-ray player and solid performance with the Inspiron 15R SE. It also features customizable lids to make it personalized to your liking but it does have below average battery life and is heavier than other similar laptops.

The 48W battery delivers an acceptable 3 hours of WiFi-surfing, which is a fair compromise for such a capable laptop. And that’s probably the only weak point for the Dell Inspiron 15R SE – otherwise it offers a fantastic display, first-rate input options, good port selection, impressive audio, and is well-suited for even moderate video-editing suites… priced at about $1000.

The $1,099 Dell Inspiron 15R SE has a lot of things to offer multimedia mavens, including an attractive design, a glare-free full HD screen and plenty of audio oomph. While this notebook doesn't offer best-in-class performance, its third-generation Intel Core i7 processor and AMD GPU can handle any workload along with the most popular games.

Aside from the looks, the battery life is the only area of concern, and even then 5hrs 27mins in our light-use test isn’t a complete disaster. This adds up to a laptop that, while not pretty, will certainly get the job done. However, for a little more elegance, better all-round build quality and a little less cash, you can buy the Asus N56VM - and that's why it's still our favourite.

The Dell Inspiron 15R SE reminds us of the fat, ugly kid in the class. Y'know, the one that had all the brains too? We may not find the 15R SE the laptop that we're most drawn to, but boy does it deliver on the power front considering the price. Battery life is a letdown, but otherwise this affordable laptop could make an ideal desktop replacement or all-round family computer. It will handle almost anything you throw at it and, over time, you will even grow to love it thanks to what's on its inside. And that's what counts.

The Dell New! Inspiron 15R Special Edition starts at a price tag of Rs.50,490, which is the cost of the model we reviewed. It feels a little bit expensive and perhaps a higher resolution screen would have balanced it out a bit. If you don’t care about the Skullcandy branded speakers then the standard version of the 15R is also a very good choice as you get a similar configuration (Core i5-3210M, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, AMD HD 7670M) for just Rs.42,500. A more powerful 15-incher would be the Asus K55VM for a few grand more. If you’re looking for something more portable without sacrificing performance then we recommend you look at the Sony VAIO SVE series. The 15R Special Edition is well built notebook but the heavy weight and average battery life is a bit of a put off.

The Dell Inspiron 15R Special Edition certainly isn't the slimmest or lightest 15-inch laptop you could buy. It is packed to the gills with powerful components though, making it well suited to a family with higher technological demands than basic web browsing. The Full HD screen and Blu-ray drive also make it ideal for movie lovers.

The Dell Inspiron 15R Special Edition is a 15.6" laptop that boasts finer materials and more powerful components than the standard Inspiron 15R.This 15.6" laptop comes with a nicely finished chassis, excellent connectivity, good performance from the processor and video card, and decent battery life. Unfortunately, the bad speakers and heinous screen quality bring its overall score down to a bland three stars.

The Dell Inspiron 15R 7520 might fly under your radar amidst all the superskinny Ultrabooks that are zipping around, but it's worth a look if style and weight aren't major concerns for you. It offers an excellent screen (most Ultrabooks don't), sturdy components, and great general performance, and it will play games fairly well, even though it isn't built to be a gaming laptop. In the end, the Inspiron 15R 7520 looks like a great choice for college students, especially with its gimmicky switchable lids.

The Dell Inspiron 15R Special Edition has a lot going for it. For a little over $1K you get impressive productivity performance, switchable graphics, and a first rate HD display. The addition of a Blu-ray drive sweetens the deal. Its battery life isn't newsworthy but it isn't terrible either, and you can always delete the preinstalled bloatware if it bothers you. That said, as good as the Inspiron 15R's graphics performance is, it can't match the overall graphics power of our reigning Editors' Choice, the Lenovo IdeaPad Y580.

Dell: Dell is a U.S. manufacturer (based in Texas) of computer hardware founded in 1984 and is one of the largest international manufacturers in terms of both market share and notebook models. Its product line includes desktops, notebooks, storage systems, monitors, servers, printers, consumer electronics and peripherals. Dell offers laptops that are suitable for various applications, such as business laptops, gaming laptops, ultra portables and workstations. Dell's business laptops from the Latitude and Precision series are an option for professional users and businesses.
In 2023, Dell had an approximate 17% market share of global PC sales, ranking #3 after Lenovo and HP.
For gaming enthusiasts, Dell's Alienware brand is for gaming notebooks.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
AMD Radeon HD 7730M: Upcoming performance-class-GPU based on the GCN architecture and produced in 28nm.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
3612QM: An Ivy Bridge-based quad-core processor clocked at 2.1 GHz with Turbo Boost support up to 3.1 GHz. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 4000 GPU running at 650-1100 MHz on a dual channel DDR3 memory controller. The speciality of the i7-3612QM is the low TDP of 35 Watt compared to 45 Watt of the other Ivy Bridge quad core CPUs (e.g. 3610QM).
Intel Core i5:
3210M: Fast Ivy-Bridge-based dual-core, includes HD 4000 GPU, core clock 2.5 - 3.1 GHz

With this weight, a laptop is rather heavier than average. Devices in this range shine more with screen size and performance than with mobility.

75.36%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
