The CyberT is a new mobile device that is now available for purchase, at least in theory. Specifically, this handheld ist listed for $89 on Tindie, but it’s currently marked as out of stock. Shoppers can sign up to get an email notification when the CyberT is orderable again. That being said, this product is described as a so-called cyberdeck, which means it’s a versatile mobile system that’s designed to run on Linux-based operating systems.
It further utilizes a Raspberry Pi CM4, paired with a custom board that offers connection options to hook up a display, for instance. The Compute Module makes the handheld quite compact and rather sleek. An additional board is required because the Raspberry Pi CM4 itself doesn’t come with much-needed connections. Unfortunately, the BlackBerry lookalike doesn’t support the latest Raspberry Pi Computer Model 5.
The remaining technical specifications include a 4-inch screen with a resolution of 720 x 720 pixels, which should be somewhat sharp. If the integrated display isn't sufficient, an external display can be connected via HDMI. Text can be easily typed via a physical keyboard, which was probably one of the most prominent features of the iconic BlackBerry cellphones.
There’s also a touchpad, a microSD card slot and while the CyberT handheld can be powered by a battery, it’s not included in the box. Consequently, this mobile device is only suitable for tinkerers and other customers who don’t expect a product that’s ready to go. Instead, the CyberT requires users to delve deeper into the DIY space.
