Casio has opened pre-orders in the US and the UK for Moflin, its palm-sized, furry companion robot that launched in Japan in 2024. Moflin responds to voice and touch with expressive behaviors, and develops its own personality based on how its owner interacts with it.

Moflin, the furry robot pet announced by Casio in 2024, is now available to pre-order in the US and the UK. The product was initially exclusive to Japan and has reportedly been a hit in the country. Now, Casio has decided to bring it to more markets.

Moflin will be available to order in Gold or Silver and will cost $429 in the US and £369 in the UK, which makes it more than triple the price of other robot pets like the Eilik (curr. available on Amazon for $139.99). However, while those in the US are limited to buying a single unit of each color, that isn't the case in the UK as we were able to add 10 (gold) units to our cart despite the site saying each customer is limited to just 3 units.

The Moflin is a palm-sized robot companion that is designed to recognize and respond to its owner's voice and touch. It can react to its owner by expressing joy, sadness, and happiness. According to Casio, it even learns its owner's preference over time which in turn leads into growth of its own emotional expressions. For example, it will react when it senses its owner is nearby by making special gestures and sounds.

Moflin has lots of sensors including illuminance and touch sensors, a gyroscope, and an accelerometer. It also has a speaker and microphone, but while Casio says it doesn't record what you say, it converts voice features into non-identifiable data which is stored locally. This data is then used to recognize a frequent speaker as its owner. In addition, Casio says that the data Moflin captures is processed locally and doesn't include personally identifiable data.

The furry robot pet has a companion app called MofLife that owners can use to track the emotions of their Moflins, adust settings, check battery level, and update its software. However, the app can upload data to a dedicated server when the owner chooses to do so.

Inside the Mofin is a 1,200mAh battery which should provide up to 5 hours of use. Included in the box is an AC adapter that should recharge it in about 3.5 hours. There is also a bed for the Moflin in the box.

Moflin is available to pre-order now ahead of its release in October.
