Ghost of Yotei releases October 2 and it brings some changes to gameplay mechanics compared to Ghost of Tsushima. One of those changes is the introduction of guns, and the latest gameplay video shows Atsu, the protagonist, make full use of firearms to take on an enemy camp. The short clip shows off some other new mechanics, as well as the wolf companion in action.
Posted on the PlayStation YouTube channel, the ‘Firearms Gameplay’ clip (linked below) is just over a minute long but that’s enough for Atsu to eliminate 11 enemies. It starts off with the lone samurai swinging onto a watchtower and using what seems to be a close-range one-handed gun to take out the first enemy. She then switches to a long-range double-handed gun to shoot another enemy. Before firing the second shot with the long-range gun, she reloads it by stuffing what would likely be a pellet and gunpowder.
Another new mechanic shown in the video was Atsu kick-flicking a sword jammed in the ground and throwing it at an enemy. In the background, you can see the wolf companion pouncing on another guard.
We know that unlike Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Yotei does not have stances, but instead uses a weapon-based combat system. During the encounter, Atsu is wielding dual swords which makes for some satisfying fast-paced and brutal combat.
Ghost of Yotei is available for pre-order and the Standard Edition is priced at $70. The Collector's Edition will cost $250 but it includes a bunch of physical items such as a Ghost Mask, Sash, Tsuba, papercraft Ginkgo tree, art cards, and Zeni Hajiki Coin Game and pouch. It also includes some digital goodies along with the game itself.
