A popular Yuzu fork and the oldest Nintendo Switch emulator that was still getting updates, Sudachi, has hit a roadblock. The solo developer, Jarrod Norwell, has announced that the multi-platform emulation app is no longer in development, and the announcement has not shared whether the development of the project will be picked up again anytime soon, if at all.
Jarod Norwell also states that the development of Sudachi is winding down because the dev needs to shift focus to Folium, a multi-emulator app for iOS. This announcement was not entirely unexpected, of course. In 2024, the developer hinted that the development would eventually hit an indefinite pause due to the "very unsafe and unpleasant environment" around the Nintendo Switch emulation scene.
To look back, after Yuzu was shut down, Sudachi was among the few emulators that got hit by DMCA notices, which was followed by the shutdown of Sudachi's GitHub and Discord server. While the Nintendo Switch emulator went back online on private servers, the DMCA actions weren't welcoming for the scene.
Sudachi has also seen many updates since then. While most of them were minor, they improved the emulator by a noticeable degree. For example, the last update, which went live on July 02, 2025, added many mission functions, while the previous version fixed compilation errors.
Now, although the development of Sudachi is currently at a standstill, there are other notable Nintendo Switch emulators out there. Jarrod recommends Eden by noting that it's "a fork that also provides real, significant changes."
