A PC gamer ordered a new RTX 5080 from PNY’s official Amazon store but was shocked to find a brick inside the box instead of the graphics card. The buyer has already asked Amazon for a refund and hopes to finally get the real GPU soon.

Many PC enthusiasts wait for months or even years to upgrade their GPU. However, what was supposed to be an exciting day for this PC gamer quickly turned into disappointment, as they received a brick instead of a brand-new GPU.

On Reddit, user GlassHistorical5503 made a post in the PC Master Race community, where they included a picture of the RTX 5080 box ordered. To their shock, opening the box revealed a brick neatly packed inside the anti-static bag that usually holds the graphics card. Instead of getting one of the most powerful GPUs on the market, the Redditor got their hands on construction material.

What makes this story concerning is that the GPU was purchased from the official PNY store on Amazon, so there wasn’t any questionable third-party seller involved. That suggests someone along the chain may have replaced the card before it reached the customer.

For context, a standard brick weighs between two and three kilograms, which is roughly the same weight as a high-end GPU like the RTX 5080 (packaging included). In short, the scammer ensured the package would still pass automated shipping checks, since the weight was almost similar.

This isn’t the first time something like this has happened - if we take Redditors' words at their face value, that is. Previously, a Reddit user in the Netherlands who ordered an RTX 5090 from Amazon opened his box to find pasta and rice instead of a GPU. In another shocking case, a Newegg customer who paid for an RTX 4090 ended up receiving blocks of metal.

In any case, the customer claims they have already applied for a refund through Amazon, and we’re hoping they get a proper RTX 5080 to replace the one that never arrived.
