AOC’s new 2K 144Hz gaming monitor is dirt cheap but surprisingly capable

AOC has launched a new 2K gaming monitor in China called the Q24G50F and its price is the headline feature. At just 749 yuan, roughly $104, it's targeting users who want smooth performance and sharp visuals without running their wallets dry. That price alone makes it one of the most affordable 1440p 144Hz monitors on the market right now.

The Q24G50F is a 23.8-inch monitor using a W-LED IPS panel with a resolution of 2560 by 1440 and supports a 144Hz refresh rate, which puts it firmly in the high-refresh bracket that’s popular among competitive gamers. AOC claims the display is factory-calibrated, with the panel offering 8-bit color depth, 99 percent sRGB coverage, and 92 percent DCI-P3. That makes it capable enough for creative use too, although gaming remains the main focus.

The monitor gets to 350 nits of typical brightness and offers a 1300:1 contrast ratio. It supports HDR10, but at this price point, expectations for HDR should be modest. The panel can handle basic HDR video content, but this won’t be the kind of vivid HDR experience you’d get from more expensive Mini-LED or OLED screens.

Some of the baked-in gaming features include Adaptive Sync support, which helps reduce screen tearing during fast gameplay. AOC also claims a 4ms GtG response time and includes some form of motion blur reduction, which is typical for monitors at this price.

Extra software tweaks like Dark Boost help increase visibility in shadows, while Game Color and crosshair overlays are helpful for FPS players. Design-wise, it’s a simple tilt-only stand, with an angle adjustment range between -5° and 23°. The good news is that it supports VESA 100x100mm mounting, so if you want better ergonomics or prefer to mount your screen on an arm, you can.

It includes a single HDMI 2.0 port, one DisplayPort 1.4, and a standard 3.5mm audio jack. The monitor weighs 3.43kg with the stand and 2.65kg without. Outside of the JD.com listing and spec sheet, there’s growing discussion around AOC’s recent budget offerings. Models similar to the Q27G3XMN have been praised for bringing high refresh rates and decent HDR performance to low price points; however, they've also been criticized for panel inconsistencies and issues with flickering at certain frame rates, especially when using variable refresh rate (VRR) features like FreeSync or G-Sync compatibility.

Also, while the HDMI 2.0 port allows 1440p gaming, it doesn’t support the full feature set of HDMI 2.1. That means PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X users won’t be able to access 120Hz gaming at 1440p, and VRR support may be hit or miss depending on the console’s implementation.
