After more than two years of player feedback and steady updates, Mortal Sin has finally reached its full 1.0 release. The first-person roguelite, which was developed by Nikola Todorovic, originally launched in early access in March 2023 and quickly became popular for its melee combat and graphic novel-inspired art style.
With the 1.0 release, the game now includes a completed story, a new final boss, and a wide set of refinements to combat and progression. The melee system, which has always been central to the experience, has been polished with improved animations, better responsiveness, and new character abilities. Visuals have also received a lot more attention - now, both the original stylized look and a new, more detailed palette (introduced earlier this year) are visible in the game, so players get to choose between two different artistic directions.
During its early access phase, Mortal Sin made a name for itself. The developer frequently updated the game based on player feedback. New biomes, classes, and mechanical overhauls were added along the way, which helped the game evolve from an experiment into a fully realized roguelite. That process seems to have paid off: the game currently holds an "Overwhelmingly Positive" rating aggregate on Steam, with the vast majority of reviews gushing over its combat and run-to-run variety. Critics have also responded well, writing nothing but positive statements about its art style and intense atmosphere, even when pointing out its demanding difficulty. PC Gamer described the combat as "heart-stopping" and visually stunning; they rated the early version at 81%.
The 1.0 launch is the end of a long development path for Mortal Sin, but the conversation around it is likely to continue. Its strong reception definitely places it among the bigger indie releases of 2025. Mortal Sin 1.0 is priced at $19.99 on Steam, post a 20% launch discount.
