Xiaomi has updated its Redmi series with another new release. However, rather than being the long-awaited Redmi Note 14 series, Xiaomi has pushed ahead with a new 14th generation Redmi release called the Redmi 14R 5G.

Xiaomi has now introduced the Redmi 14R 5G, which serves as a new budget option in its burgeoning Redmi portfolio. While the new Redmi handset looks like the existing Redmi A3 (curr. $92.50 on Amazon), it should be considerably more powerful thanks to its reliance on a more recent chipset.

Specifically, Xiaomi has equipped the Redmi 14R 5G with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset, which can be configured with 4 GB, 6 GB or 8 GB of RAM. Added to that, Xiaomi includes a 5,160 mAh battery that supports 18 W charging, as well as a 6.88-inch display that resolves at 1,640 x 720 pixels with a 120 Hz refresh rate and 600 nits peak brightness. Unsurprisingly, the Redmi 14R 5G is relatively large, with Xiaomi specifying 171.88 x 77.8 x 8.2 mm dimensions on its website.

Moreover, the Redmi 14R 5G weighs between 205 g and 212 g, depending on whether you opt for its vegan leather, metal or glass back options. Furthermore, the Redmi 14R 5G finds itself with 5 MP front-facing and 13 MP rear-facing cameras, along with an unspecified secondary rear-facing camera. Predictably, the Redmi 14 5G runs HyperOS 1.0 too, just like Xiaomi's other recent smartphone releases. Although Xiaomi has not confirmed a global launch yet, the Redmi 14R 5G is already available in its home market for CNY 1,099 (~$155) with 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, which rises to CNY 1,899 (~$268) for its top-tier 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage variant.
