Reviews for the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3

87.5% Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 review: Foldable high-end smartphone with cosmetic flaw | Notebookcheck
With the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, up to 16 GB of RAM and a 6x camera, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 clearly belongs to the high-end smartphone class, but is still comparatively well-priced. Officially, the 8.03-inch AMOLED foldable is reserved for the Chinese market, which also affects mobile phone coverage. Our review clarifies whether an import purchase is worth it.
Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 Audio test
Source: DxOMark English
With an overall score of 130, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 delivered a good performance in the DXOMARK Audio tests and showed very noticeable improvements over its predecessor, the Mix Fold 2. The Mix Fold 3 especially shone as a recording device, thanks to a very pleasant timbre and very effective wind noise reduction. Only when recording loud events, such as concerts, did the Xiaomi show some weaknesses. Overall recording results were best with the main camera, but the front camera and memo app were almost on the same level. Playback was not quite on the same high level as the recording results but still decent. Playback quality was very good at high volumes, with very good bass and treble rendition as well as dynamics, but unfortunately the quality dropped at nominal and soft volume levels.

Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 Display test
Source: DxOMark English
The Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 (main screen) is a decent device for display overall. Although its maximum brightness is limited, it has an anti-reflective film that helps achieve better readability even in very bright-light environments. The anti-reflective film also helps to minimize the visual impact of the screen’s crease. However, the Mix Fold 3’s video performance trails that of other devices in the same category, as it does not manage brightness and contrast very well. Similarly, the device’s touch function had a somewhat low reaction time, and the display was unresponsive to long touches on the edges and corners of the screen. Finally, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3’s angular performance was particularly noted because color changes were inconspicuous when the device was held at less than 20°, making it a good device for viewing at an angle.

Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 Smartphone Review
Source: OI Spice Tech News English
The Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 smartphone brings some substantial improvements compared to the Mix Fold 2. It’s all in the internals that’s what makes the smartphone run. So, the new internals will surely improve your user experience. It provides tremendous value and there are no other foldable smartphones that can provide the same user experience as the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 does. If you want a great display, processor, camera, battery life, and most importantly, a solid user experience, then the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 can be a good choice. It also has 5G which will further enhance the internet connectivity and thereby the user experience but it is not without any cons. The Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 lacks dust or water resistance, which is not a good look for the flagship smartphone and there’s no 4k recording from the selfie camera as well. But if you want a foldable phone then Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 would be a better option for the foldable smartphone but you need to pay a little more for it. Anyways, the final decision is up to you, therefore choose wisely as per your requirements.

Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 Review Philippines
Source: Unbox English
I loved the time that I spent with the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3. It’s a great foldable with a lot of awesome features, but some things can be improved on. The lack of IP protection is a little baffling, as is the amount of bloatware that comes pre-installed on a phone that’s supposed to be a premium device. I’m sure that things are done differently in China, but the sheer number of unwanted, pre-installed apps in it is a little baffling. The biggest gripe I have is availability. The Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 is ready for prime time, as it’s one of the best foldables I’ve handled recently. It’s a little baffling that Xiaomi is keeping it a China-exclusive device, especially since the converted pricing for the base model in China looks so damn aggressive.

Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 Malaysia hands-on: A great foldable, if only…
Source: Soycincau English
For material choices, you get two—a Gorilla Glass Victus 2 back in either Black or Gold, or a composite fibre variant Xiaomi calls “Dragon Scale Fiber”. This material is a blend of ceramic fibre and aramid fibre and is lighter than glass, which contributes to the lightweight nature of the phone. Unfortunately, the Mix Fold 3 does not come with an IP rating for water resistance, unlike the Z Fold 5’s IPX8 rating that means it can be submerged. So there you have it, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3. A worthy foldable phone to own, packed with features one would want. The biggest thing stopping us from recommending it outright is that the phone is only in sale in China for now, and there are no official plans to bring it to the Malaysian market. What a pity, as it is a great alternative to the competition here.

82% Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 review
Source: GSM Arena English
The Mix Fold 3 is another step in the right direction for the Xiaomi foldable lineup, if not quite as dramatic as the transition from the first to the second generation. That said, some things haven't been addressed yet, like the waterproofing, less than ideal thermals, lackluster video capabilities and software that's not as useful as it could be. The move from an autofocusing ultrawide to a fixed focus one also perplexes us. However, this third generation does bring meaningful upgrades. We're fans of longer reach and we very much appreciate the 5x telephoto, and it's nice that there's a 3.2x unit to bridge the gap too - there haven't been such zoom-focused foldables lately. Tying nicely with the enhanced imaging setup is the new hinge design that adds another layer of usefulness to the form factor.

Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold 3 Hands On
Source: Yugatech English
To conclude this hands-on, at the moment the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold 3 is not officially available in the Philippines at the time of this writing. Whether or not it will be coming, the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold 3 seems to be a promising contender in the foldable phablet space. It’s thin, light, and sturdy and we can’t wait to put it through its paces in a future review.

Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 First Impressions Philippines
Source: Unbox English
Without any questions, Xiaomi did a great job in making the Mix Fold 3 both a pinnacle of engineering with its thin and light build and a feature-packed foldable, especially with its rear camera setup. However, as much as we’re excited about it, not everyone will get to fully appreciate the Mix Fold 3–unless Xiaomi changes its mind and makes it available to more countries other than China.

LOOK: Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 Camera Samples
Source: Unbox English
Overall, the Mix Fold 3 is an interesting device coming from Xiaomi: aside from the engineering done to make it slimmer and lighter than the competition, Xiaomi gave it a very versatile camera setup that can go head-to-head with some flagship phones. However, the real catch right now–aside from the ultra-wide camera having room for improvement–is that the Mix Fold 3 remains to be elusive to China, at least for now.

Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 Review + Rant During Tropical Storm Hilary
Source: ben's gadget reviews English
So there is a tropical storm in Los Angeles for the first time in 80 years, and the state government is on high alert asking everyone to stay inside. I took the chance to step outside to film a Mix Fold 3 review in downtown LA. This video is mostly a review, but the last five minutes is a rant about behavior I've been seeing online. The Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 packs a quad camera system headlined by a 50MP IMX800 main sensor and two zoom lenses covering the 75mm and 120mm focal length. The phone is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 "Leading Version" which is the same chip used by the Galaxy Z Fold 5. There's a 4800 mAh battery with wireless charging.

Xiaomi MIX Fold 3 Review: That’s Finally Worth Buying?
Source: Igeekphone English
As Xiaomi’s third-generation folding flagship machine, Xiaomi MIX Fold 3 can be said to be absorbing the manufacturing experience of the previous two generations and seeking breakthroughs on this basis. Angle hovering, wireless charging, the introduction of three surging chips, and the deployment of the leading version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen2 mobile platform, it can be seen that Xiaomi is also paying more and more attention to user experience while achieving the ultimate stacking of hardware. The change in the shape of the folding hinge allows Xiaomi MIX Fold 3 to have a multi-angle hovering body for the first time, which is a giant leap forward for Xiaomi folding phones. In our experience, the hinge of MIbodyd 3 is very flexible.

Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 hands-on impressions: All that in a skin-tight suit
Source: Android Authority English
What’s also apparent to me is that compromises are not as explicit here. The camera system already feels more than competent. My only personal gripe would be the lack of IP rating — something that Xiaomi has not confirmed to us. Sure, the MIUI software build on this specific model is not great, but it’s designed for Chinese audiences, and a global MIUI ROM would undoubtedly iron out some admittedly minor complaints. As has been said about many China-only devices over the past few years, if no release is planned outside of the region, Samsung will remain steadfast at the top of the foldable sales charts for some time yet. Luckily, we could learn more about a global launch at IFA in just a few weeks. We’re eager to see how and where Xiaomi positions the Mix Fold 3, as it could be one of the phones to beat in 2023 and beyond.

Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 Hands-On: Two New Zoom Lenses!
Source: ben's gadget reviews English
The Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 is here. It's slightly thinner and lighter than the Mix Fold 2, and gets two new zoom lenses: a 3.2X telephoto and 5X Periscope, both with OIS and Leica lenses. The main camera also got an upgrade to the Sony IMX800 with a f/1.8 aperture. There's also a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip here that's the same overclocked version as seen in Samsung's 2023 flagships.

Comment

Model:

The latest to join the Xiaomi family is none other than the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3. In terms of its build and design, this device has a reassuringly silent folding operation which is definitely satisfying. In addition, this model is super thin, at 5.3 mm when open and it measures just 10.9 mm when it is closed. To put that into perspective, the Pixel Fold is 5.8 mm open and 12.1 mm closed, while the Galaxy Z Fold5 is 6.1 mm and 13.4 mm, respectively. Comparatively, the Mix Fold 3 may sound small, but this thinness makes a tangible difference and helps it feel more like a regular phone when closed, though it is quite noticeably taller than its rivals. As for its display, the AMOLED outer display of this phone covers almost the entire front and is sharp and bright. When opened, the 8-inch OLED unfurls into a small tablet. While it does not quite match the exterior screen on pixel density, it is still crisp and smooth, paired with a 120-Hz screen refresh rate. Furthermore, there are also support for Dolby Vision, and the peak brightness goes high enough for HDR highlights. Just like the front screen, it gets bright enough to remain legible outdoors, even in sunshine.

As far as its camera is concerned, this model has been incorporated with a 50-megapixel main lens with a pair of 10-megapixel telephoto lenses, plus a 12-megapixel ultrawide lens. Apart from that, there are also two 20-megapixel selfie cameras, one central on the front and one at the top left on the internal screen. Whichever lens used, the results are generally sharp and detailed, with strong contrast, though noise inevitably creeps in at higher levels of zoom. In addition, the low-light and nighttime performance is solid. Generally speaking, multitasking makes a folding phone like the Mix Fold 3 worthwhile. This is simply due to the fact that having two apps side by side is very useful, whether while watching a tutorial and gaming or juggling photos in a messaging app. On the other hand, the two-pane view for apps like Gmail and the Settings app is super handy too. Talking about its battery, the battery life is another potential concern with folding phones, but Xiaomi squeezes impressive stamina from the 4,800-mAh battery. Even while using the large screen heavily, the Mix Fold 3 had something in the tank at the end of each day. This is highly due to its adaptive refresh rate and various optimizations. With such capacity, one could conceivably go two days between charges. In a nutshell, it is a great phone to be explored, depending on the need and preference of the user.

Qualcomm Adreno 740: Graphics chip for smartphones and tablets that is integrated within the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. Qualcomm claims that it is 25% faster than the Adreno 730 in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and first benchmarks show that the GPU can beat the Apple A16 iGPU (previously the fastest smartphone GPU).

Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Graphics Cards and the corresponding Benchmark List.

SD 8 Gen 2: High-end SoC for smartphones that was introduced in late 2022 with a fast prime core based on a ARM Cortex-X3 architecture clocked at up to 3.2 GHz. Two more performance cores are based on the A715 and also support only 64 bit applications. The two additional A710 cores support also 32 bit applications as do the power saving Cortex-A510 cores. In addition to the processor cores, the SoC integrates a WiFi 7 modem, a Hexagon DSP (for AI acceleration) and a Spectra ISP. The integrated memory controller supports fast LPDDR5x memory with up to 4,200 MHz. 5G is included in the chip with the Snapdragon X70 modem.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.

8.03":

Large smartphones and a few small tablets are available for this display size. Unlike most smartphones, you can see more on the screen, more details and use larger resolutions. Such formats are better for people with defective vision. However, such devices are no longer easy to fit in a pocket, and they are probably not quite light either.

» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.

Xiaomi:

Founded in 2010, Xiaomi Corporation is a Chinese multinational electronics company and produces consumer electronics and related products, including smartphones, televisions, fitness bands, power banks, headphones, smart devices and accessories. Xiaomi offers its products under the Mi, Redmi and POCO brands.

86.63%: This is an above-average rating. Nevertheless, it should not be forgotten that about one fifth of all tested models receive a better rating.
