Reviews for the Vivo iQOO Neo9 Pro
Source: Business Standard
The iQOO Neo 9 Pro emerges as a commendable performance-centric smartphone, albeit falling short of being an all-rounder due to its subpar imaging system and not perfect user interface. These are areas where its sibling, the OnePlus 12r, shines, albeit at a slightly higher cost. Nonetheless, for those prioritising gaming and performance over imaging and user experience, the iQOO Neo 9 Pro warrants consideration.

The iQOO Neo 9 Pro gives OnePlus 12R a run for its money. It not only serves as a true competitor to the OnePlus 12R, but is also a smartphone that is tough to beat in its segment by any other brand. If you are looking for a smartphone that costs below Rs 40,000, there’s no better option than iQOO Neo 9 Pro, at present.

The 12 GB RAM variant that we have been testing is fantastic. I know that’s a lot of adjectives in a review, but that’s just how good the iQOO Neo 9 Pro 5G is. It offers snappy performance, a decent camera, good battery life, a super responsive display, and for gamers, it’s a delight. The smartphone is priced starting at Rs 35,999, and the variant we have is priced at Rs 39,999, but bank and launch offers bring that down to Rs 36,999 –– that we think is a pretty sweet deal for this smartphone. Unless you are specifically looking for a camera-first smartphone on this budget, for daily usage, and for clicking images for social media, and for gaming in a budget, the iQOO Neo 9 Pro 5G is a great choice.

The gaming performance of a smartphone is primarily defined by its processor, and most flagship smartphones excel in gaming due to their high-end chip. Last year, I got a phone with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC by paying over Rs 1,20,000, and now, in less than 12 months, we have the iQOO Neo 9 Pro with the same chip, available for less than half of that.

Similar to its predecessor, the iQOO Neo 9 Pro remains your best bet in the sub-Rs 40k segment if gaming and performance matter to you. The upgraded 50MP primary camera delivers reliable performance, although the inclusion of a telephoto camera or an improved ultra-wide camera could have given it an edge. Alternatively, if you seek a clean Android experience and an immersive Android ecosystem, the OnePlus 12R may be the ideal choice. However, for stutter-free performance and ample 256GB storage at a comparatively lower budget, the iQOO Neo 9 Pro proves to be a compelling option that won’t disappoint.

So the iQOO Neo9 Pro is the most powerful mid-range smartphone that I have tested so far. Not only does it make the competition fell short on power, it also puts the flagships to shame with the outrageous performance numbers this phone was able to put out. The battery and charging is also a superb combo, offering you the best of both worlds (long backup and fast charging), and even the camera is very good for casual users who click a photo or two every now and then. Of course, the iQOO Neo9 Pro is not for camera enthusiasts since gaming enthusiasts are the ones iQOO is catering to right now. Even the design is something that will have mixed review reviews.

Should you buy the iQoo Neo 9 Pro if you're in the market for a new smartphone around Rs. 40,000? The handset is equipped with a capable processor — the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 — and a reliable primary camera that can handle most scenarios. It also offers fast 120W charging and comes with a charger in the box. This phone's biggest competitor in India is the OnePlus 12R, which is also equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, LTPO AMOLED screen, and runs on Android 14 out-of-the-box. However, it has UFS 3.1 storage and can be charged at 100W — both of these are slower than the Neo 9 Pro. The OnePlus 12R has a 2-megapixel macro camera, but you're not missing out on much there. There are other options in this price segment such as the Oppo Reno 11 Pro, Nothing Phone 2, and the Samsung Galaxy A54 5G. However, their processors are slower than the one inside the iQoo Neo 9 Pro.

Both Vivo iQOO Neo 9 and 9 Pro are extremely high-end smartphones that one might even call flagship smartphones. After all, both smartphones do have flagship-level displays, chipsets, batteries, and even design, but they lack a few too many features to be called proper flagships. There’s no water and dust protection. Nothing for the display as well. The camera system lacks a telephoto sensor and there’s no wireless charging as well. But that’s not a bad thing considering the price these new smartphones are asking for. If IQOO had incorporated those features, the new smartphones would have been a lot more expensive but it’s not. It’s all thanks to the decisions made by IQOO and this has opened the door to these new smartphones to a whole new level of user base. There is an alternative smartphone to these two that may or may not provide better features depending on the availability of the smartphones.

In the fiercely competitive smartphone market, the iQOO Neo 9 Pro emerges as a remarkable contender, especially in the high-performance segment. This in-depth analysis focuses on the pricing strategy and overall value proposition of the Neo 9 Pro, evaluating how it stacks up against its rivals. The iQOO Neo 9 Pro is positioned in the premium mid-range segment, offering advanced features at a competitive price. The starting price of $400 for the base model is an aggressive strategy to penetrate a market dominated by established brands like OnePlus, Realme, and Xiaomi. The top-end variant, priced at $600, still undercuts many flagships, providing a high-end experience without the hefty price tag.

The iQOO Neo9 Pro has transitioned from merely accumulating performance, as observed in the previous generation, to incorporating a decentralized X100 main camera, the series’ inaugural LTPO high-quality adaptive high-refresh screen, and the Neo series’ largest battery to date. The new generation of the iQOO Neo series not only ensures high performance but also prioritizes the comprehensive user experience of the mobile phone. Performance is indisputable. The Dimensity 9300 stands as a flagship SOC with a full core. In real-game testing, Genshin Impact attains an ultra-low power consumption of merely 4.4W while maintaining a full frame rate. Such an achievement is nearly inconceivable on the Snapdragon platform. Additionally, the iQOO Neo9 Pro attains a harmonious equilibrium between high picture quality, high frame rate, and low power consumption in gaming, courtesy of iQOO’s support for the “Blue Crystal Chip Technology Stack.”

Qualcomm Adreno 740: Graphics chip for smartphones and tablets that is integrated within the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. Qualcomm claims that it is 25% faster than the Adreno 730 in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and first benchmarks show that the GPU can beat the Apple A16 iGPU (previously the fastest smartphone GPU).
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

Two more performance cores are based on the A715 and also support only 64 bit applications. The two additional A710 cores support also 32 bit applications as do the power saving Cortex-A510 cores. In addition to the processor cores, the SoC integrates a WiFi 7 modem, a Hexagon DSP (for AI acceleration) and a Spectra ISP. The integrated memory controller supports fast LPDDR5x memory with up to 4,200 MHz. 5G is included in the chip with the Snapdragon X70 modem.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.

It is a small display format for smartphones. You shouldn't be severely defective in vision, and you won't see much detail on the screen and only have a small resolution available. For that, the device should be small and handy, easy to transport.
» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.82.33%: This rating is slightly above average, there are somewhat more devices with worse ratings. However, clear purchase recommendations look different.
