With Amazon Alexa: Cubot releases a budget smartwatch with voice assistant integration and 5 ATM waterproofing for under US$55
Cubot may be known for its smartphones, but the company also produces smartwatches, such as the Cubot C3. Now, it has started selling the ID206, which offers plenty of features for its affordable price tag. Cubot sells the ID206 through its website for US$54.43; it is also available in Australia, Canada, the Eurozone, and the UK.
Visually, the model reminds us of an Apple Watch at first glance, albeit with a centred digital crown. Cubot has equipped the ID206 with a 1.7-inch display that operates at 240 x 280 pixels and a Nordic nRF52840 MCU. Hence, the ID206 runs on a proprietary OS, not Wear OS. Nonetheless, the smartwatch supports Amazon Alexa Voice Service (AVS), which you can trigger by long-pressing the digital crown. Amazon has outlined what AVS can do in its developer documentation.
Accordingly, the ID206 has a microphone and supports eight languages. There is no loudspeaker though, so you cannot take or make calls from it. The smartwatch also relies on Bluetooth 5.0 (BLE5.0), and does not support GPS, LTE or Wi-Fi. Cubot claims that the ID206 is water-resistant to 5 ATM too, and has multiple sensors for tracking your heart rate, sleep, steps, calories and stress levels.
The Cubot ID206 is available in black or pink, which have grey and rose gold watch bodies, respectively. The ID206 is compatible with smartphones running Android 6.0 or iOS 9.0 and later.
