MediaTek has just made the Dimensity 9400 official, and the first phones featuring this next-gen flagship SoC will launch this month in China. However, it seems that the company will also release a sub-flagship chipset soon. As spotted by GizmoChina, an unannounced SoC codename has appeared in the firmware code of Xiaomi HyperOS.
The chipset, codenamed MT6899, has also appeared in MediaTek's June 2024 security bulletin, confirming its existence. However, currently, there are no phones that feature it. This SoC is expected to be called the Dimensity 8400, and as it appeared in the firmware code of HyperOS, it's likely that Xiaomi will be among the first companies to release a smartphone that features it.
As for the performance, in July of this year, prominent leakster Digital Chat Station reported that the Dimensity 8400 is capable of offering better performance than the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, Qualcomm's current sub-flagship SoC. The AnTuTu benchmark score of this upper mid-range MediaTek chipset is said to be around 1.8 million.
In comparison, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 gets a score of around 1.5 million in the AnTuTu benchmark. Past reports have also suggested that the upcoming Redmi K80E could be among the first smartphones to feature the Dimensity 8400.
