Trump to declassify secret UFO files

There have been numerous reports of alleged UFO sightings and encounters with extraterrestrial life, particularly in the United States. It is also well documented that the US Department of Defense has been tracking unidentified flying objects for decades, now officially referred to as UAPs – Unidentified Aerial Phenomena. One of the agencies involved is the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office, or AARO. A report published in 2024 concluded that there is no confirmed evidence of extraterrestrial life and no proof that the observed incidents are linked to foreign governments. Even so, public interest in these files remains strong.
US President Donald Trump has announced plans to release government documents related to UFOs, UAPs, and possible extraterrestrial life. He said the move is intended to promote transparency in response to what he described as “enormous public interest.” In a recent post on his platform Truth Social, Trump stated that he would direct the Secretary of Defense and other relevant authorities to identify the appropriate files and initiate the process of making them public. He referred to the subject as “highly complex but extremely interesting and important.”
Trump’s announcement follows recent remarks by former President Barack Obama in a podcast with Brian Tyler Cohen. Obama suggested that, given the vast scale of the universe, extraterrestrial life is statistically plausible. However, he stressed that during his time in office there was no evidence of direct contact. It remains unclear whether any documents will ultimately be released and, if so, which ones. On X, formerly known as Twitter, users are already speculating. Some have expressed concerns that potentially sensitive material could be heavily redacted for reasons of national security.
