Toyota FT-Se concept EV estimated performance revealed
Further information has been shared by Toyota about the FT-Se concept performance car. The model was unveiled at the Japan Mobility Show, alongside the FT-3e concept SUV which was designed in part with AI. At the show, Toyota revealed that the FT-Se was a two door performance model, developed using insights from Gazoo Racing.
In an interview with Top Gear, Fumihiko Hazama, chief engineer for the Toyota FT-Se, shared more information about the concept model. The company plans to take a prototype of the sports car to the Nürburgring “in the future”, stating that achieving a good lap time was “very important” to the team. A key issue for tackling the longer course is cooling the battery; air intakes at the front of the EV and a “third-generation battery system” help to tackle this.
The new batteries are lighter than the current version which, combined with an aluminum, steel and carbon fibre body, make the car lighter. On performance, Hazama said that, while the company was yet to measure acceleration, a 0 to 100 kph (~62 mph) time of around three seconds was expected. The top speed is estimated at around 250 kph (~155 mph). Toyota also confirmed that the AWD system has a rear bias, enabling you to drift. When the Toyota FT-Se will go on sale remains unclear, with rumors suggesting that the model will go into production “after 2026”.
