With Windows 10 just around the corner, laptop manufacturers are starting to include it in their marketing communications. This time, Toshiba announced that their laptops will feature a dedicated button that will allow users to launch Cortana with just one touch.
Let’s remind, Cortana is the voice assistant originally available only on smartphones running Windows Phone operating system. Microsoft recently announced that it will also be part of the upcoming Windows 10 system.
According to Toshiba, the Cortana button will be located in the upper left area of their laptops, near the function keys, making it very easy for the users to quickly and conveniently start the feature.
We think the dedicated Cortana button is generally a good idea, but only if its well communicated by Toshiba and Microsoft alike. Also, if other laptop EOM’s decide to include such feature in their products, it just might become a standard solution, definitely increasing Cortana’s popularity. However, we have no information about other manufacturers going the same way about this. Nor do we know whether Microsoft has had any part in Toshiba’s idea. We’re going to have to wait until July 29th to find out, when Windows 10 will be launched, most likely along with a large array laptops running it.
