Toshiba Satellite Radius 14 E45W-C4200
The Toshiba Satellite Radius 14 E45W-C4200 is a budget friendly laptop. One of its key features is its ability to vary screen positions right up to being a tablet. The brush metal grey finish, black chiclet style keyboard and clean cut lines lends to a classy looking setup. The chassis is solid enough to handle the inherent portability of the Windows 8 system. Its 14 inch HD TruBrite panel features a 16:9 aspect ratio and features good colors and clarity. The audio quality perfectly complements the display with the Harman/Kardon stereo speakers tuned by DTS sound. On-board the Toshiba Satellite Radius 14 E45W-C4200 is an Intel Core i3-5015U dual-core processor clocked at 2.1 GHz, 6 GB of DDR3L SDRAM, an Intel HD Graphics GPU and a 500 GB HDD as internal storage. A Toshiba laptop served as my travel workhorse for several years back in the day. I liked it, but haven’t since used another of the company’s machines. That wasn’t for any particular reason—it was just the way things worked out. However, if the E45W-C4200X is any indication of what the company is up to these days, I may have been missing out.

The Toshiba Radius 14 doesn’t have many competitors. While there are 2-in-1 devices sold at or below $500, almost all of them have a 10-inch or 11-inch display, and most use Intel Atom processors (or similar) rather than Intel Core. Dell’s Inspiron 13 7000 2-in-1 stands out as the nearest alternative.

At a manufacturer's suggested price of $585, the Satellite Radius 14 has a hard time competing with its less expensive 2-in-1 competition. But at $500 from Best Buy, things get a lot more interesting. At that price you're getting a lot of laptop for the money, including a big 14-inch screen, decent battery life and good CPU performance.

If Toshiba's Satellite Radius 14 had an IPS screen at its low price, this would be nearly a rave review. As is, its best features are its comfortable keyboard, easy-to-use touch pad with quiet clicks, good overall strength, and high-quality Harman/Kardon speakers. It's also a solid everyday performer thanks to its Core i3 processor and 6GB of RAM, although the 500GB hard drive was slow enough to make us feel impatient.

Retro-Radius. Toshiba sees a market for affordable 14-inch convertibles and positions its new Radius 14 lineup in the gap. We quite liked the flexible device for its casing and input devices, despite restrictions such as the TN screen or conventional hard drive in the test.

14.00:
14 inch display size represents a middle ground between the small subnotebook formats and the screens of the standard 15 inch laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, provides good resolutions with usable detail sizes, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact.
In the past, 14-inch devices were very rare, but now they are the standard for laptops after the 15-inchers.

69.76%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
