If what you're after is a compact and lightweight large format business tablet that can remained powered all day, the Toshiba Portege z20t might be right for you. However, if you perform labor intensive tasks at work, then you'd probably be better suited buying one of the competing hybrids. That's not to say this isn't a solid device (it is), but you're already making a sacrifice buying something with a Core M chip, you shouldn't have to sacrifice further by buying a hybrid whose Core M chip isn't on par with similarly-specced devices.

All in all, Toshiba's Portege Z20t is a finely crafted 2-in-1 device with excellent battery life. Its Core M foundation might not make it the fastest ultrabook on the block, but in combination with a speedy solid state drive, there's sufficient power to tackle a variety of productivity chores.

The Toshiba Portege Z20t-B2112 is a good detachable hybrid ultrabook and tablet, with a slim, fanless design, and a docking keyboard that lets you use the system as a laptop, or to take it on the go as a tablet. The decision to include an Intel Core M processor provides middling performance, but excellent long battery life, making it a good pick for anyone who needs the freedom to forget their charger for a full day or longer. Unfortunately, that performance will slow down some workers, and in terms of sheer performance, you'd do better with something like the Microsoft Surface Pro 3, or the Editors' Choice Dell Latitude 14 7000 Series (E7450).

The Toshiba Portege Z20t ($1,399 starting; $1,699 as reviewed) is an attractive and powerful 2-in-1 that offers lots of functionality for its premium price. Its duo of responsive styluses, rich full-HD display and bevy of ports make it easy to get work done in tablet mode, and its detachable keyboard dock gives it a snappy set of keys and stellar battery life when used as a laptop.

A nother Core M-based device lets us see further evidence of its advantages – and cons. Toshiba is pitching the Portege Z20t as a business device, but also hopes to sell them into schools, so it’s a sturdily built device with thoughtful features.

Toshiba’s alternative to the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 is a solid competitor, offering a lovely screen and a battery that performs beautifully. Some might find that keyboard and mouse a little too shallow, but with three mouse types and a keyboard that you can get used to, these are cons that will quickly fade to the back of the mind.

The Toshiba Portege Z20t may be aimed at the business market, but its credentials are excellent for home usage as well. Toshiba told us it will be releasing a consumer version of this product eventually, but that it will be glossy as that is what consumers prefer. We think that the anti-glare display of this tablet is what makes it so desirable.

Toshiba Portege Z20t-B-10C
Convertibles are getting more and more popular lately with their laptop-and-tablet technology in a single device. This addition to Toshiba's portfolio is one such offering. The Toshiba Portégé Z20t-B-10C brings various features that are certain to beat its competition for a high-end price. The 12.5 inch display is slightly larger than similar convertibles' and the touchscreen is anti-fingerprint and anti-reflective, ensuring a clear display at all times and enabling outdoor usages. The non-reflective feature will definitely appeal to users who are constantly travelling as it will not hamper their need to reply emails or handle other important matters on-the-go. With both 360° hinge and detachable keyboard option, users will be able to use this model according to their convenience and style. Another pro is the capacitive LED backlit touchscreen, which is more receptive to user touch and supports up to 10-point input. For tablet usage, Toshiba provides two input pens and with its integrated handwriting recognition, this ultrabook can convert words written using the included styluses into digital text. Its 1920 x 1080 IPS display driven by the Intel HD Graphics 5300 does not disappoint as well. It provides a satisfying media-viewing experience with its wide viewing angles. In addition, Toshiba's Portégé Z20t-B-10C promises a battery life of up to 9 hours, and has 8 GB of RAM and an internal storage size of 256 GB. The Windows 8.1 Pro system is powered by an Intel M-5Y71 Vpro dual core processor.Specifications

Expensive runtime wonder. Toshiba charges a steep price of 2000 Euros (~$2138) for the top configuration of its latest business convertible – in return the user gets a business device with comprehensive features and enormous battery runtimes. Thanks to the anti-reflective touchscreen, the Portege Z20t can also be used outdoors.

The Portégé Z20t is extremely slick and well designed, delivering a two-in-one that is the first we have seen to convincingly look good in standalone tablet and laptop configurations. As an ultraportable, the Z20t also looks the part, although it felt slightly on the heavy side for our liking. Perhaps thanks to Intel's Core M platform, Toshiba has managed to deliver a system that can offer all-day battery life in its docked configuration, although it is a shame that the tablet and keyboard have integrated batteries.

Toshiba Portege Z20t-B-10G
The Portege legacy continues with the rolling out of the Z20t-B-10G. Its solid metal chassis looks professional, which makes it an idyllic business companion. The display can be easily detached and used as tablet for presentation purposes. The system is powered by a 6th generation Intel Core M-5Y51 processor with 4 GB RAM, and a 128 GB SSD. Unfortunately, the storage capacity is quite low, but it can be expanded with a microSD card. Graphics are rendered by the integrated Intel HD Graphics 5300 graphics chips. Images are sharp, which is a crucial factor for business users. The 12,5-inch touchscreen from Toshiba is bright and features Full HD resolution. As it uses IPS technology the viewing angles are wide. In addition, the display made of hardened IOX Glass with anti-fingerprint with anti-reflective coating. The connectivity includes an HDMI-out, a micro HDMI-out, two USB 3.0 ports and a micro USB 2.0 port. Despite high performance, the Portege Z20 remains lightweight at 1.5 kg. To top it off, its battery life of 17 hours (tablet + keyboard) provides users with longer productivity.Specifications

Can the Portégé Z20t really compete with the Surface Pro 3? If you're looking at performance, picture quality, the stylus and overall design, then the answer is clearly "no." But it has other things going for it, such as much longer battery life, a better keyboard, a sturdy body and more connectivity. Just be aware that you won't be doing many complex tasks or photo editing on it.

The Portege Z20T is a competent 2-in-1 business combo, but it falls behind the rest of the pack. While the matte screen, excellent keyboard, and alternative pointing stick will appeal to business users, the tablet functionality, active stylus, and awkward ergonomics will not. In fact, most of those positives can be found in cheaper business laptops without the tablet functionality.

The Toshiba Portege Z20t is well-balanced, powerful, feature-rich convertible with sturdy construction and almost flawless design with little drawbacks on the list. We were pleased with the rigidness of the chassis (the tablet’s as well as on the docking station’s shell) and also quite delighted from the various input methods that Toshiba has provided. The touchpad, keyboard, and the trackpoint were comfortable and easy to use. In addition, the docking station contains multiple ports (LAN, full-sized HDMI, micro HDMI on the tablet and VGA) that even standard 15.6-inch notebooks lack.

The Toshiba Portege Z20T-B-107 comes close to getting right as a hybrid that’s both a good tablet and a good laptop. But as tablet it’s let down by its relatively heavy weight, heat issues and its inevitable reliance on Windows which has both benefits and disadvantages, such as extensive peripheral compatibility but a continuing paucity of touchscreen apps.
