The Torras Coolify Cyber is a personal fan that wraps around your neck to keep you cool during workouts or hot days when indoors or out. Alternatively, the unit can also work in reverse to keep you warm. Unlike cheaper neck fans, the Torras integrates more than just several fans including three cooling modules, exhaust vents, and graphene surfaces for increased thermal conductivity. Such “advanced” features are responsible for the higher-than-average $260 to $300+ asking price. Do these additions really improve the experience? The manufacturer has sent us a sample for our honest impressions.
First impressions when handling the Coolify Cyber are its strong build quality and large size. As a high-end neck fan with a high-end price, we’re at least glad to see that the unit doesn’t feel rickety or cheaply made. On the other hand, it’s definitely larger and heavier (500 g) than expected when compared to more basic neck fans like the JisuLife Pro3. As someone with a small neck circumference (~35 cm), i found the thick size of the Torras to be more pesky than the heavier weight.
The buttons and settings on the Torras are thankfully easy and intuitive. There is a dedicated button to switch between heating and cooling modes while the Power button doubles as the intensity setting (Level 1 (low), Level 2 (medium), and Level 3 (high)). The higher the level, the better the cooling and louder the fan. Meanwhile, the fans are deactivated in heating mode.
In practice, the Torras works very well for cooling and heating as advertised. Its most notable problem, however, involves fan noise. While noise level is low on the level 1 setting, the effectiveness of the cooling isn’t very great. It’s not until you turn it up to Level 2 or Level 3 will the cooling/heating become much more noticeable and more comfortable. Unfortunately, the noise levels on these higher settings are loud to the point of distraction especially when trying to have a conversation with others. This might not be a problem when exercising or working alone, but you definitely don’t want to be attending classes or conference rooms with the Torras on Level 2 or Level 3 settings.
Other lesser disadvantages involve the battery life and conductive surface. When set to Level 2 cooling, the unit would last under 2 hours compared to the manufacturer claim of 2.4 hours. Though not bad, users shouldn’t expect all-day battery life like on a laptop or smartphone. Charging is thankfully reasonably fast at about 90 minutes from empty to 80 percent via USB-C.
As for the conductive surface, it covers the entire inner circumference of the neck fan starting from the inner tip to the opposite tip. The main problem is that only the inner back of the neck fan is in contact with your neck while the tips are just hanging in front and not touching any skin. This becomes wasted potential since the cooling in this portion of the neck fan isn’t working as efficiently as it could have been. More freedom to bend the unit so it can properly wrap all around your neck would have been helpful.
Despite the downsides, the air conditioning on the Coolify Cyber is effective and much more noticeable than the air ionizers on lesser alternatives. Hopefully a next generation model can cut down the size and weight while retaining battery life and increasing flexibility.
Pros | Cons |
+ Good build quality + Universal USB-C charging + Easy to operate + Excellent cooling/heating effect | - Relatively large and heavy - Level 1 cooling setting not very effective - Higher cooling settings gets quite loud - Pricey |
