Huawei subsidiary Honor has officially unveiled the Honor 8 Pro for the European market. The smartphone features high-end specs at a very competitive price tag; pre-ordering it grants buyers a couple of perks.

Honor has officially lifted the veil on its latest high-end offering, the Honor 8 Pro.

If you think you've seen this phone before, you're probably right. The device previously debuted in China as the Honor V9—they are the same handset in every respect but name.

Since the two phones are virtually identical, let's just go through a quick refresher. The Honor 8 Pro comes with a 5.7-inch QuadHD display, and is powered by a Kirin 960 octa-core processor; this is the same chipset found in Huawei's recently-released P10 and Mate 9 devices. 6 GB of RAM, along with 64 GB of storage, are standard offerings for the base model. Storage capacity can be expanded via a hybrid slot that supports microSD cards (it can also be used to carry a second SIM).

The Honor 8 Pro's cameras are similar to those of its predecessor, the Honor 8. A pair of rear-facing 12-megapixel cameras capture photos, and the device's software processes and combines them to produce a high-quality final image. This type of camera setup (not to mention the phone's display and processor) can be power-hungry; thankfully, the Honor 8 Pro includes a large 4,000 mAh battery to ensure you don't run out of juice when you most need it.

Honor has seen fit to include the latest version of Android, 7.0, with its handset. However, it is customized with Huawei's EMUI 5.1 software, which promises performance improvements as well as a form of adaptive learning—depending on which apps you use and when, the software will optimize system resources for greater efficiency.

For now, the Honor 8 Pro can be pre-ordered exclusively through vMall, Huawei's online store, for £474 (about 555 euro, or US $592). The phone is offered as part of three distinct bundles which come with several accessories including a tripod stand, memory card, or power bank. Currently, in the UK the Honor 8 Pro comes in a single color: navy blue. Once the device is sold regularly across various retailers continent-wide starting on April 20, additional finishes should be available.
