The Extreme H hydrogen car racing championship has been announced for 2024
The Extreme H off-road hydrogen car racing championship has been unveiled. The motorsport series was announced by Alejandro Agag, founder and CEO of Extreme E, an electric car racing competition that began last year. Extreme H and Extreme E will run alongside each other at the same locations and times.
According to Agag, both pure hydrogen and joint racing categories are being considered. The Extreme H vehicle is already being developed, with a prototype expected to land in early 2023. The hydrogen-powered car will have an identical chassis and powertrain to the electric vehicles used in Extreme E.
The main difference between the two cars will be the hydrogen fuel cell used in place of the battery. Agag stated that the company would use green energy sources such as solar and water power to generate hydrogen for the fuel cells. Extreme E already uses this technology to generate electricity for its batteries.
The hydrogen car racing championship is due to start in 2024, with teams including JBXE, ABT Cupra XE and Veloce Racing expected to participate. Extreme E hopes that Extreme H will drive innovation for hydrogen-powered vehicles. Agag said he wants the event to
showcase the possibilities of new technologies in the race to fight climate issues.”
