The Teufel Real Blue Pro claim to be true premium headphones and offer a comprehensive range of features. These include three-level hybrid ANC, a transparency mode, Mimi sound, high-resolution audio codecs and a wide range of connections.

In this review, you can find out whether this is enough to stand up to the competition in such a highly competitive market. The Real Blue Pro have an MRSP of around US$380.

Case and ergonomics - Stylish design and comfortable to wear

The Teufel Real Blue Pro are available in the color variants Night Black and Titanium Grey, with the former being our test device. Their main materials are plastic and synthetic leather, which don't detract from the headphones' high-quality feel. We particularly like the brass-colored elements.

The over-the-head band can be adjusted to the user's head size and offers plenty of room to maneuver. You can feel the contact pressure at all times but it never gets uncomfortable. The ear pads are nice and soft, adapt well to the shape of your head and ensure that noise is noticeably blocked even when the headphones are switched off. The disadvantage of this is that there is hardly any air circulation underneath, so you may well get sweaty quite quickly. The ear pads are replaceable and can be repurchased from Teufel if required.

Connectivity and operation - The Teufel Real Blue Pro with an integrated hearing test

The Teufel Real Blue Pro are easy to connect. You can do so wirelessly via Bluetooth 5.1 with a wide range of codecs. Alternatively, you can use the integrated jack adapter (3.5 mm), for which a fabric-covered connection cable is also included in their scope of delivery. This means that you can use the Teufel headphones even when their battery is empty. The cable also has a small remote control, which is equipped with a button and a microphone. The button can pause or resume playback as well as accept and end calls. An airplane adapter would have been practical to include. In addition, the USB-C port isn't suitable for audio but is instead only used to charge the battery and exchange data.

Functions such as Smart Pause, customizable equalizers, a transparency mode and Mimi sound personalization are also part of the Teufel headphones. The latter personalizes sound reproduction with the help of a small listening test and then adjusts the playback to the user's hearing performance.

The Teufel headphones can be operated via physical buttons on the ear cups. In addition to a connection button for Bluetooth control, there is also a combined button for ANC and transparent mode. The remaining functions can be controlled via the joystick, which includes the connected voice assistant, wearer detection, call control and media playback. Although this is very versatile, it also requires a little practice.

The app, which is available for Android and iOS, is laid out clearly and provides access to all important functions. This is also where the Mimi hearing test is carried out or equalizers are adjusted.

Sound - The Teufel headphones with three-level hybrid ANC

The Real Blue Pro are very fun to use and boast a wide range of sound. However, their Dynamore function must be activated for this, because without it, the bass range lacks punch in particular. Bass isn't the most pronounced on the Teufel headphones anyway when Bluetooth is used. We liked their playback via the audio jack the best. Suddenly the sound has more power and sounds more voluminous in all areas. The headphones are also very well equipped with audio codecs for Bluetooth, which is why we would have expected a little more at this point. However, the drivers seem to be capable of that, so we can only hope that Teufel will make some improvements via a software update.

The three-level active noise cancellation (ANC) reliably filters out background noise but is not as powerful as that in the Bose QC45. In addition, some counter-noise can be heard during quiet parts of the audio you are listening to.

The headphones' transparency mode transmits environmental sounds very naturally, but this only works to a very limited extent during audio playback. In addition, background noise can always be heard here too.

Telephone calls aren't a strength of the Teufel Real Blue Pro, but this is almost always the case with headphones in this class. They work well in quiet environments, but the user always sounds a little muffled and tinny.

THD (Total Harmonic Distortion): Harmonic distortion quantifies the amount of distortion caused by non-linear distortion (harmonic content) in relation to the original signal. THD only refers to the fundamental component. The distortion factor is often mentioned in the same breath, but it refers to the overall signal.
THD+N (Total Harmonic Distortion + Noise): This value is comparable to THD, but in addition to the interference power of the harmonics, that of the noise is recorded as an effective value.
For the measurement, a low harmonic sinusoidal signal (1 kHz, > 0 dB) is played back via the headphones that are being tested, which is recorded by a linear measuring microphone (measuring distance: approx. 1 cm) in an artificial head.

Both values are given as a percentage. The lower the value, the better the signal fidelity.

Battery life - Long runtimes with the Teufel Real Blue Pro

During our battery test with the volume adjusted and ANC activated at maximum level, the Teufel Real Blue Pro achieved very good runtimes.

If their battery does run out, there is still the option to play audio via the jack. Charging the 800 mAh battery fully took almost two hours in our test.

Verdict - Great headphones with lots of features and some small flaws

The Teufel Real Blue Pro impressed us during our test with their good sound that—in some cases—was missing a little oomph. However, fans of less bass-heavy music likely won't see this as an issue.

In turn, Mimi Sound offers a sound profile adapted to individual users, which isn't just a bonus for older users. Sound playback via an audio jack is also possible as an option and their ANC is effective.

Teufel's Real Blue Pro are versatile premium headphones without any serious weaknesses.

One major strength of the Teufel headphones is their great battery life. Their small deficits in sound may be a knock-out criterion for audiophile users, but most others will hardly notice them.

Viable alternatives include the Bose QuietComfort 45, but they offer a considerably smaller codec spectrum.

Price and availability

You can find Teufel's available products on their Amazon storefront. The Real Blue Pro's MRSP is around US$380 but they can't currently be purchased via any online retailers in the US.
