Tesla Roadster 2 excites Elon Musk over sub-second acceleration and SpaceX design as 'mind-blowing' demo scheduled for 2024
The initial release date schedule of the Tesla Roadster 2 just moved from 2020 to 2025. Elon Musk said that the 2025 Roadster 2 will be unveiled as soon as this year and the announcement will sport "the most mind-blowing product demo of all time."
While it would be easy to dismiss Elon's typical hyperbole, his excitement seemingly lays on solid ground as he cites sub-second 0-60mph acceleration and "radically increased design goals" achieved in collaboration with SpaceX. "That's not even the most interesting part," he added.
Tesla still says 1.99s acceleration on its Roadster 2 preorder page, so big changes must have happened since Tesla's design head Franz von Holzhausen promised that it will be an "exciting flying machine with the SpaceX package."
At the time, he mentioned that Tesla is learning a lot while developing the Roadster 2 from its Plaid performance vehicle platform. That process is apparently done as Elon Musk informed that "production design [is] complete" and the Roadster 2 is scheduled for "unveil end of year."
Tesla Roadster 2 and Model 2 release date
"All those experiences will, you know, make their way back into a much better Roadster than had we launched right after we debuted it," said Franz, and Tesla will seemingly deliver at a grand unveiling event this year.
The new Roadster 2 release date and announcement schedule also brings hope for those waiting on Tesla's first mass market electric car - the Model 2. Tesla's marketing chief Martin Viecha said that the compact car is prioritized for launch before the Roadster 2 which at the time was on Tesla's backburner. The Model 2 release date is now expected to be in 2025, too, so next year is shaping up to be exciting for Tesla fans.
