Tesla Cybertruck can now be leased from $999 a month without a buyout option
In the span of a year, Tesla has nearly worked through its early Cybertruck reservations list and is now exporting it in Canada, while basically anybody in the US who wants one can purchase it and have it made in a week or so.
In order to spur additional Cybertruck demand, Tesla introduced a much cheaper, non-Foundation Series version that starts from $79,990, and made it available to lease for the first time.
Tesla Cybertruck lease payments
Cybertruck AWD with $7,500 down:
- 36 month: $999/month
- 24 month: $1,999/month
Cyberbeast with $7,500 down:
- 36 month: $1,204/month
- 24 month: $1,368/month
On paper, the Cybertruck qualifies for the federal point-of-sale electric SUV or pickup tax credit of $7,500.
For now, however, it is only eligible for the commercial vehicle tax credit of the same amount, but the sum can likely be used as a down payment, essentially allowing eligible buyers to lease a Cybertruck for less than $1,000 a month before taxes and fees.
Tesla throws in its gas savings estimate to hit that mark after fees, though, so one would still have to spend at least twelve grand a year to ride around in a Cybertruck.
The fly in the ointment is that Tesla doesn't offer a buyout option at the end of the Cybertruck lease period, yet the monthly payments would probably be in line with its depreciation rate if purchased outright anyway.
