TerraMaster reveals affordable D8 Hybrid 2 with up to 152 TB storage support

TerraMaster is a well-known name in the realm of home NAS and DAS systems. The company's D8 Hybrid DAS allowed customers to pair hard drives and solid-state drives for maximum storage and speed, and its successor aims to do the same. 

Dubbed the D8 Hybrid 2, the updated DAS features support for four SATA hard drives and the same number of M.2 NVMe SSDs. Folks with storage-hungry workflows can max out the D8 Hybrid 2 with a whopping 152 TB of storage, with the help of four 30 TB hard drives and four 8 TB SSDs. Given just how expensive storage is nowadays, maxing out the DAS will be quite an expensive affair.

Speed enthusiasts will be pleased to note that the DAS will be able to hit around 1,020 MB/s with a single NVMe SSD. With an ideal RAID configuration, the four hard drives can hit around 980 MB/s. It should be noted that the D8 hybrid 2 does not have built-in RAID functionality and requires third-party software for the same.

The D8 Hybrid 2 DAS sports tool-free drive installation

Like many other offerings in this range, the D8 Hybrid 2 features a completely tool-free experience courtesy of the brand's push-lock drive bays. The M.2 drives, on the other hand, can easily be accessed and swapped through the sliding side panel.

Folks who are averse to loud systems will be relieved to know that the D8 Hybrid 2 can allegedly be as quiet as just 21 dB. The brand also claims that the fan is rated for over 50,000 hours of operation. Whether or not these claims translate to real life can only be verified once the product reaches reviewers' hands.

Other notable details of the D8 Hybrid 2 DAS include a USB 3.2 10 Gbps port, a dedicated power saving mode with a physical toggle, and compatibility with nearly every major operating system, including macOS, Windows, Linux, Proxmox, TrueNAS, Unraid, and TherraMaster's in-house TOS software. Being a DAS, the D8 Hybrid 2 unsurprisingly does not support any networking capabilities.
