Tencent has launched a new text-to-video generation tool, Hunyuan Video. The generator is based on the Hunyuan Foundation model and is aimed at enterprise and individual users.

Chinese technology conglomerate Tencent has launched a new text-to-video generation tool called Hunyuan Video. It is based on the company's Hunyuan foundation model with over 13 billion parameters.

The tool can generate five-second videos up to 1280x720 (720p) video resolution. Tencent claims its Advanced 3D VAE architecture can maintain "excellent visual consistency" and have "smooth, natural motion."

The generator uses a Multimodal Language Model (MLLM) based text encoder and "outperforms previous state-of-the-art models" with text alignment rates of up to 68.5%. Text alignment measures an AI model's adherence to your prompt and how closely the output matches your requirements. Tencent says the tool also has 96.4% visual quality scores.

The tool is open-source and uses credits as currency. You need 15 credits to generate one video, and Tencent has various credit bundles you can purchase. A bundle of 150 credits will cost you $9.99 (€9.48 or £7.85). A bundle of 750 credits sells for $44.99 (€42.70 or £35.34), and $79.99 (€75.93 or £62.83) will net you 1500 credits.

AI video generation is quickly becoming a lucrative business opportunity for big tech, with companies like OpenAI, Google, Meta, and Amazon all throwing their hat in their ring. Chinese technology giants Kuaishou and Alibaba are all in the craze, too.
