While NXTPAPER technology is a great idea and the TCL NXTPAPER 10s is a noble effort, unfortunately there’s no use case where it’s a better option than the alternatives. While it might reduce eye strain, the dim, murky and washed-out image means it’s frustrating to use, whatever the task. If you’re primarily interested in reading books, then you’ll find an e-Ink device like the Kindle Paperwhite is sharper, clearer and easier to read – with the added benefits of easy library access and extended battery life. If you’re primarily interested in consuming multimedia, then you’d benefit from the improved brightness, contrast and overall picture quality of a normal tablet. For $499 you’ll find pretty decent Android tablets, while a few more dollars gets you into iPad territory. If you’re primarily interested in a note-taking device, then you’d be better off with a tablet that supports an active stylus and a better keyboard cover.

There’s no shortage of well-priced, solidly capable tablets on the market today, whether you’re keen on an entry-level iPad, a modestly-equipped Android slate, or a cheap-but-functional Amazon Fire device. But the TCL Nxtpaper 10s tries a different approach. Rather than release another tablet designed to do everything reasonably well, TCL created a device that’s primed for writing and reading, with a coated screen that makes jotting down notes and scribbling with a stylus feel more like putting pen to real paper. There’s something to it—but in my testing, the benefits were modest. The drawbacks, however, were much more significant as the dim, muddled-looking display is a poor fit for most other everyday tablet needs.

TCL NxtPaper 10s is a decent tablet that launched in January 2022 and is expected to unveil in the first quarter of 2022. As far as the price point is concerned, the company has yet to unveil it. The overall appearance looks great, and you are getting an NCVM IPS display on 10.1 inches panel. Although, the tablet is lacking pixel density, FHD+ resolution grants ample experience. An 8MP primary snapper is present on the back, while the company offers a 5MP selfie. Under the hood, it offers a Mediatek MT8768 chipset with Android 11 support. All of this is fueled by an 8000 mAh battery. It also brings an 18W charger inside the box. Lastly, you can pick Dark Gray and Ethereal Green at 4/64GB.

The TCL Nxtpaper 11's innovative matte display has a paper-like quality that's appealing for reading, though it's not great for watching videos. The tablet’s decent battery life is a mark in its favor too, but that doesn't make up for the pokey processor and slow Wi-Fi speeds. Overall, we would likely enjoy a version of this tablet with a bit more power. If you want a tablet for entertainment in this price range, you're better off with either the Amazon Fire 11 Max or the ninth-generation Apple iPad, both of which provide more reliable performance and more vivid screens. However, if you want a dedicated ereader, the Editors' Choice-winning Kindle Paperwhite is the way to go.

The TCL NXTPAPER 11 is a budget tablet that's doing its bit to stand out in what can be a marketplace of lookalikes and same-old same-old. You do lose out on a better chipset that you'll see at higher price points, and nice-to-haves like wireless charging, but it's an attractive looking tablet with a pretty intriguing USP. The NXTPAPER 2.0 technology does look lovely, and feels good too, with stylus compatibility that extends its functionality. It may not be the very best for watching videos on, from an out-and-out performance perspective, but if you're looking for a device that can double up as a tablet for work and an eye-friendly reading device, the TCL NXTPAPER 11 could well be worth a look.

The Nxtpaper 14 has some nice features going for it. The display is easy to read and the special coating makes it easy on the eye. 256GB of storage is a very respectable capacity if you want to watch movies or play games without needing an internet connection. Its main issue though is the price. At £399/€399 the device is up against some real heavy hitters, with the Google Pixel Tablet being the elephant in the room. If you can find the Nxtpaper 14 on a good discount deal, then it’s worth your consideration, but at full price, it sits a little too close to the big guns if your heart isn’t set on the display tech.

Glossy screens are actually not ideal: reflections form in ambient light and they are very susceptible to fingerprints. We take a look at the TCL 50 Pro smartphone to see whether a matte display actually works or whether there are disadvantages here too.

These graphics cards are not suited for Windows 3D games. Office and Internet surfing however is possible.
Imagination PowerVR GE8320: Integrated graphics card for mid-range ARM SoCs.
Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.
ARM Mali-G72 MP3: Integrated graphics card from ARM with 3 cores based on the 2nd generation of the Bifrost architecture.
ARM Mali-G52 MP2: Integrated mid range graphics card with 2 clusters. ARM states that the G52 series is 30% faster and 15% more efficient compared to the G51 series on the same process node.
Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.
ARM Mali-G57 MP2: Integrated mid range graphics card with 2 clusters. Based on the Valhall architecture.

70.78%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
