At first glance, the Melt Mouse looks like a minimalistic mouse, and in some ways, it is. However, it’s not just a mouse, as this input device can also function as a number pad and a trackpad. The surface of the mouse essentially acts as a touchpad that recognizes finger movement.
Since it can detect multiple fingers at once, two-finger gestures are supported. Depending on the application, using it as a trackpad might be particularly convenient. The manufacturer says the mouse provides haptic feedback and offers a maximum resolution of 6,000 DPI.
Mouse doubles as a number pad
When used as a number pad, dots indicate the positions of the individual numbers. However, these 12 dots don’t have to be limited to number input, as they can be customized via software. The manufacturer claims this can be useful for apps like Photoshop or Premiere Pro. Different profiles can be set up as well. The mouse also has two physical buttons on the side.
Buyers need some patience
The Melt Mouse is currently crowdfunding on Kickstarter. Backers must contribute at least about $237 excluding shipping, taxes and potential import fees. Deliveries should arrive in September 2026, if everything goes as planned. As usual, there are financial risks involved here and a complete loss of the contribution is possible.
