Kitchen Wars, developed by indie studio FryByte Games and published by NoSpill Publishing, entered Early Access in April and is expected to remain in that phase for six to nine months. Access normally costs around $5 – but until August 4, 2025, you can grab it for free. It's especially worth playing with friends since the game truly shines in co-op multiplayer mode.
In Kitchen Wars, players take on the role of a chef in a restaurant that doubles as a battleground. Teams of 1 to 4 compete by sabotaging each other’s operations – stealing chairs, tossing objects or even using weapons to take out rival kitchen staff. Along the way, you can unlock helpful boosters. The chaotic action works both online and locally and can also be played solo.
In its review, Comicbuzz called Kitchen Wars ‘pure chaos,’ yet it still earned a strong 9/10 rating. On Steam, the game had just 30 user reviews at the time of research, but 86% of them were positive. Testers say the game really comes into its own in multiplayer with three or four players. Praise was given for its fresh concept, playful art style and wide range of unlockable skins. The tutorial also received good marks for being clear and helpful.
However, Kitchen Wars has some rough edges. Comicbuzz noted that matches aren’t always evenly balanced – 2 vs 1 games, for example, were described as unplayable. The developers still have work to do in terms of matchmaking and overall balancing. It’s also worth noting that online servers are currently limited to Europe and Asia, with no dedicated servers yet available for North America or other regions.
