In My Friend Pedro, players take on the role of a masked anti-hero who wakes up in the basement of a butcher shop with no memory. Guided by a talking banana named Pedro, he carves a path through a bizarre criminal underworld. Across 40 action-packed levels, you blast your way through factories, restaurants, warehouses and even the internet – fueled by slow motion, endless gunfire and wild ideas. According to HowLongToBeat, a standard playthrough takes about four and a half hours. For those aiming to uncover every secret and challenge, expect to spend roughly twice that time.
The heart of My Friend Pedro lies in its spectacular action. From a 2.5D perspective, players string together acrobatic moves, ricochet shots, split aiming and bullet time to take down enemies in the most inventive ways possible. At the end of each level, your performance is scored from C to S, and high-score chasers can compare their rankings online. Despite its quirky tone, the game offers a real challenge. To rack up top scores, you’ll need to use every trick in your arsenal and take out enemy groups with precision. Simply shooting your way through might get the job done – but with a C-rank, victory feels far less satisfying.
Reviews: Stylish action with technical weaknesses
My Friend Pedro was developed by indie studio DeadToast Entertainment and released in June 2019 by publisher Devolver Digital. At launch, the German gaming magazine GameStar praised it as a well-rounded package, highlighting its stylish, action-heavy gameplay, smooth pacing with fair checkpoints, and entertaining B-movie-style presentation. However, the game wasn’t without flaws. Reviewers noted that the controls sometimes struggled to keep up during intense sequences, making precise movement difficult. Technically, the game didn’t quite impress either – the graphics felt somewhat outdated even at release, and parts of the level design came across as repetitive.
Despite a few shortcomings, GameStar awarded My Friend Pedro a solid score of 82 out of 100. The reception on Metacritic is similar, with a Metascore of 81 and a User Score of 7.8. Steam users, however, are far more enthusiastic: 95% of nearly 25,000 reviews are positive, reflecting the game’s strong appeal among players.
80% discount on Steam
My Friend Pedro is normally priced at $20 on Steam, but it's currently available for just $4 thanks to an 80% discount running until June 26. It’s a solid deal – though not the first. According to SteamDB, the game was offered at the same price back in April, but it has never dropped lower.
