In Cult of the Lamb, you take on the role of a fanatical lamb building its own cult. The game blends roguelike action with base-building elements – a mix that has been well received by players. For the first time, it is available on Steam with a 60% discount, dropping the price below $10.

The premise of Cult of the Lamb is delightfully bizarre. You play as a sheep saved from death by a mysterious deity, only to become a fanatical follower who starts a cult in its honor. At its core, the game is an action roguelike enriched with building and management mechanics.

You build structures, gather resources, preach sermons and perform dark rituals to keep your followers loyal and their faith strong. At the same time, you venture into randomly generated areas, battle enemies, defeat rival cult leaders and absorb their powers. The goal is to uncover four mysterious regions, convert non-believers and rise as a divine Lamb God. At the heart of the experience are roguelike crusades, with procedurally generated dungeons, ever-changing weapons and temporary upgrades that make each run unique. Alongside this, permanent upgrades provide a steady sense of progression.

At launch, Cult of the Lamb generated significant buzz, especially for an indie title, peaking at over 60,000 concurrent players. Reception was overwhelmingly positive. Reviewers at the German gaming site 4Players praised the game’s short, engaging dungeon runs, typically lasting 15 to 25 minutes, making it well suited for quick sessions. The quirky premise, combined with its detailed cartoon-style visuals, also received high praise. Criticism focused mainly on the relatively shallow combat system and a gameplay loop that can feel repetitive toward the end. Even so, the game earned a strong score of 8 out of 10. On Steam, it has amassed more than 115,000 reviews with a glowing 95% “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating. On Metacritic, critics awarded it a Metascore of 82, while users rated it 7.9.

Under $10 on Steam for the first time

Developed by Massive Monster and published by Devolver Digital, Cult of the Lamb launched in August 2022. On Steam, the game typically sells for around $25. Until February 5, it is available at a 60% discount, dropping the price to a new all-time low of $9.99. According to SteamDB, previous discounts peaked at 50%. Good news for handheld players: the roguelike is Steam Deck "Verified" (currently priced at around $675 on Amazon).
