Starlink coverage map in the US expands to nix Residential tier waiting lists in many states

Aspiring Starlink users in states like Michigan, Pennsylvania, Ohio, or Illinois will be delighted to hear that SpaceX has removed the subscribers' waiting list in those states. As it keeps adding next-gen satellites launches, SpaceX has substantially expanded the Starlink coverage map in the Eastern US.

Those willing to sign up for the cheapest Starlink Residential tier in the US can now do so without going into a waiting list first in a number of states such as Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, or Illinois. Last year, capacity constraints made SpaceX introduce subscriber restrictions in vast swaths of the continental United States as it simply couldn't handle all the willing clients and the exponential rise in traffic.

Aspiring subscribers in many states often had to first stay in the Best Effort waiting room that provided much slower satellite Internet and often remained there for more than a year.

SpaceX, however, keeps adding capacity by launching new satellites, reducing the strain on Starlink's network and adding bandwidth to expand its coverage map in the US. Just yesterday, SpaceX launched 22 of its next generation V2 satellites and it is now standing at more than 4200 satellites in orbit, up from roughly 3000 at this time last year.

Thanks to this increased satellite network density, SpaceX slowly started to remove or reduce all restrictions it had placed on Starlink subscriptions previously. Back in March, it removed the Internet speed limit of those on the Best Effort waiting tier who had to make do with a 50 Mbps cap while those on the standard Residential subscription enjoyed double those speeds. Last month, SpaceX also scrapped its idea for throttling Starlink satellite Internet users in the US with high-speed data caps.

All in all, the Starlink satellite Internet coverage map of the US has greatly increased this year, as SpaceX kept launching satellites. If the process continues, the whole of continental United States may be enjoying great Starlink speeds on the Residential tier as long as subscribers are willing to pay the $120 monthly fee and $599 for the equipment barring any promos.
