Sony to enable Bluetooth Multipoint on LinkBuds, LinkBuds S and WF-1000XM4 earbuds
Sony has announced via a press release that several recent earbuds will soon receive a software update that enables Bluetooth Multipoint. For reference, the functionality will allow you maintain two Bluetooth connections simultaneously. For example, you will be able to listen to music on your laptop and then switch to a paired smartphone when a call comes in.
Currently, Sony has confirmed that Bluetooth Multipoint will be headed to the LinkBuds, LinkBuds S and even the WF-1000XM4. For some reason, while the LinkBuds and LinkBuds S will receive the update next month November, Sony has scheduled the corresponding update for the WF-1000XM4 at some point this winter. Incidentally, Sony has not outlined whether enabling Bluetooth Multipoint affects battery life on any of the three earbud models.
Separately, Sony has introduced a new edition of the LinkBuds S, which debuted in May. Originally available in three colours, Sony has added 'Earth Blue' to its roster. Supposedly, the new colour option utilises recycled granules from plastic water bottles. Like the update for the LinkBuds and LinkBuds S, the new Earth Blue colourway will be available from next month, with Sony setting a €199.99 MSRP for the Eurozone.
