Sony’s 65" A95K QD-OLED TV is down to $1,498 for an Amazon Prime Day lightning deal (which ends very soon), but it’s a 2022 model. Still offers stunning picture quality, though newer 2024 sets may edge it out on brightness and ports.

Amazon has axed the price of Sony’s 65-inch Bravia XR A95K, chopping it from its original $3,499 MSRP to $1,498 for a limited-time Prime Day lead-in that ends in approximately 16 hours from the time of writing. That’s the lowest we’ve tracked for the 2022 QD-OLED and a hefty 57 percent discount, which is pretty tempting on paper, yet it comes with the fact that this set is now three model years old.

Released as Sony’s top-tier OLED, the A95K still puts on quite a show. The QD-OLED panel pairs deep blacks with OLED-plus brightness and the Cognitive Processor XR keeps tone-mapping in line for HDR movies. Acoustic Surface Audio+ (which uses actuators behind the screen to vibrate the panel) turns the screen into a speaker. Gaming features are in place as well - 4K 120 Hz, VRR and ALLM - though only two of the four HDMI ports can handle the full 48 Gbps bandwidth, so unless you're juggling multiple next-gen consoles, you should be okay.

Competitor pricing shows why the deal looks attractive but not automatically unbeatable. LG’s 65-inch C4 from 2024 is currently $1,199.99 at Best Buy, while Samsung’s 65-inch S90D is hovering around the same price (at least at the time of writing). Both newer TVs get brighter in day-lit rooms, ship with four HDMI 2.1 ports and will see firmware support for a few extra years.

Let's talk about the caveats in a little more detail. Because the A95K debuted in 2022, it will stop receiving major OS updates sooner than LG’s 2024-series or Samsung’s current lineup. Its SDR brightness is only "decent" when you put it next to models like the Samsung S95B, which released in the same year. And while QD-OLED tech all but guarantees infinite contrast, newer panels do hit higher overall luminance without sacrificing black levels. If you need the sheer punch of the latest OLEDs, or more than two high-bandwidth HDMI ports, this deal may feel less compeling.

Rtings.com scored the A95K at 9.0 for mixed usage, especially its perfect blacks, wide viewing angles and near-flawless HDR tone mapping. Downsides mentioned are middling SDR brightness and raised blacks in strong ambient light. Rtings also flags that Sony replaced the set with the brighter A95L in 2023, which adds more weight to the point regarding the shortened update cycle.

If you’ve been eyeing Sony’s flagship picture quality and don’t mind buying a late-cycle model, $1,498 is a strong price for the A95K. However, you should keep in mind that the TV’s age means shorter software support and tougher competition from the 2024 crowd. You can treat it as a shot at near-reference image quality for less, not as the universally best value in the aisle.

Buy the 65-inch Sony A95K QD-OLED TV on Amazon for $1,498.
