WekiHome has already disassembled the Xperia 1 IV, months before Sony starts shipping its latest flagship in some markets. To recap, Sony upgraded the Xperia 1 series to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, up from the Snapdragon 888 in the Xperia 1 III. Additionally, the Xperia 1 IV features Sony's new periscope camera system, the first that offers optical zoom at various magnifications.
As WekiHome shows in the video below, Sony's new periscope camera is only marginally larger than the one it included in the Xperia 1 III. Surprisingly, the Xperia 1 IV has a narrower periscope camera than the Xperia 1 III's, although it is marginally longer. Incidentally, the Xperia 1 IV's periscope camera utilises the Sony IMX650, the same sensor found in the Huawei P30 and P30 Pro.
Thankfully, the Xperia 1 IV is as repairable as its predecessor, with many modular components, including its 3.5 mm headphone jack. It is worth noting that replacing the display requires disassembling most of the device. Moreover, it seems that Sony has glued the battery down; there are no obvious battery pull tabs as there are on many devices. For reference, the Xperia 1 IV started shipping last week in Europe. Conversely.
