The biggest 51mm variant of the Fenix 7X Sapphire Solar has dropped to $499 at BuyDig, which is arguably a considerably better offer than the similarly sized Fenix 8, which currently retails for more than twice as much.

Garmin's top-of-the-line smartwatches are nifty little gadgets, but they certainly aren't cheap. This specifically applies to the latest and greatest models in the company's current lineup, which is currently spearheaded by the Fenix 8 AMOLED. Fortunately, smartwatch buyers who don't want to pay over $1,000 have a cheaper and quite intriguing alternative.

To be more exact, the large 51mm Garmin Fenix 7X Sapphire Solar has dropped to $499 at BuyDig, which is an additional $130 discount on top of the already reduced list price of $630. The best comparison is probably the Garmin Fenix 8 Solar, whose 51mm version is currently priced at a whopping $1,199 on Amazon. This means that the last-gen Garmin smartwatch is almost 60% or $700 cheaper. Please be aware that this deal will expire this Sunday, August 31.

That being said, shoppers who contemplate buying the Fenix 7X should be aware that they would miss out on the new voice assistant and phone call feature. Both of these functions are available on the Fenix 8 Solar, which we have thoroughly reviewed last year. The newer wearable also sports improved sensors.

Nonetheless, the Fenix 7X Sapphire Solar still offers a long battery life of up to 37 days with an appropriate amount of sunlight and many other features and specs that will probably make most outdoor enthusiasts and athletes quite happy. For instance, the Garmin smartwatch should reliably track countless types of activities, including sleep.

It's also worth noting that the Fenix 7 series still receives regular software updates, so these watches are anything but obsolete. In the end, the enormous price difference might entice budget-conscious buyers to grab the steeply discounted 51mm Fenix 7X Sapphire Solar instead of the expensive 51mm Garmin Fenix 8 Solar.
