A bedside lamp that not only automatically adapts to your sleep rhythm, but also uses mmWave sensors to enable more precise sleep tracking than a smartwatch - Sleepal aims to contribute to better sleep health.

If you don't want to wear an Apple Watch ($329 on Amazon) or a smart ring while you sleep, Sleepal is another option for tracking your sleep. Sleepal looks like a modern, cylindrical bedside lamp and can also be used as a lamp.

The dial on the base allows the lamp to be switched on or dimmed at any time. However, there are several sensors in the upper part of the lamp, including a microphone, which is used to detect and analyze snoring, among other things. A thermometer and a humidity sensor are designed to evaluate environmental conditions that can impact sleep. Finally, an mmWave radar is designed to detect not only the movements of the body, but even the respiratory rate by evaluating the movements of the chest.

In the morning, the associated smartphone app displays an evaluation that breaks down the sleep phases, the heart and breathing rate during sleep and the ambient conditions. The app is designed to provide tips on how to improve sleep, such as which position to avoid when falling asleep. For more comprehensive insights, it is also possible to synchronize data from devices such as a smartwatch with the Sleepal app. The lamp may be a maximum of 2 meters away from the sleeping position. If several people are sleeping in the same bed, only the sleep of the person who is closest to the sensors is recorded.

Prices and availability

Sleepal is being funded via Kickstarter and is to be offered as part of the Kickstarter campaign at prices starting at $269, with the retail price rising to $449. The manufacturer has not yet confirmed when the Kickstarter campaign will open or when Sleepal will begin shipping.
