After nearly a year of delays to address core gameplay and monetization concerns, Sega confirmed a global November 2025 launch for Sonic Rumble, a 32-player, arcade-style battle royale co-developed with Rovio that channels Fall Guys’ round-based chaos while leveraging licensed movie-pack cosmetics.

After a series of delays that stretched its development timeline by nearly a year, Sega’s upcoming multiplayer battle royale Sonic Rumble is locked in for a global launch this November 2025 on PC via Steam, iOS, and Android. However, no specific day has been announced beyond November.

Sonic Rumble was initially teased as Sonic Toys Party in early leaks around mid-2024 and was scheduled for a winter 2024 debut as a free-to-play title, co-developed by Sonic Team and Rovio Entertainment, following Sega’s 2023 acquisition of the Angry Birds Creator.

Sonic Rumble was, unfortunately, initially delayed to spring 2025, followed by a firm May 8, 2025, release target that was subsequently scrapped just eight days before release. The reason behind this was emerging quality concerns.

The third delay left major regions, including the US, UK, and Japan, in limbo. At the same time, Sonic Rumble soft-launched in select countries like Uruguay, Belgium, and Australia as early as August 2024. These multiple delays were due to a need to overhaul core gameplay systems identified during closed betas, including a May 24–26, 2024, playtest, and additional ongoing regional playtests.

Early adopters have praised the game, giving it a 4.8-star rating on the App Store. Sega mentioned discussions with Rovio over balancing the game’s mechanics while avoiding pay-to-win elements, as reiterated by Sonic co-creator Takashi Iizuka in an October 2024 interview, where he stated that the game will prioritize a “long-lasting” experience over a rushed rollout.

Fast-forward to October 15, 2025, Sega dropped the latest release window trailer for Sonic Rumble, alongside an official blog post, touting the game as the “ultimate arcade royale.” The battle royale spin-off will pit 32 players in a chaotic, toy-box arena where gamers will take control of pint-sized versions of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, Cream, and Dr. Eggman.

Similar to Fall Guys, the game will cycle through escalating rounds, starting with thirty-two players, skimming down to sixteen, and then eight finalists in a survival gauntlet.

The game will also feature a dedicated Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie pack with add-on skins, stages, and post-launch cosmetics like Excalibur Sonic from Sonic and the Black Knight and Wave from Sonic Riders.
