Seagate and LaCie have launched new drives that will appeal to both mobile and power users including gamers. The new drives will come in a range of capacities and sizes as well as a mix of spinning platter and SSDs.

Seagate and its subsidiary LaCie have jointly announced a several new hard drives at CES. The new drives appeal to a wide variety of audiences from the average user, to road warriors and power users including gamers. As with the PCs that we have seen on display this year, the drives also offer contemporary styling that is a far cry from drives of even the recent past.

The new LaCie 2019 Mobile Drive sports has been designed using a new diamond cut metal that delivers an angular look. Although compact, storage capacities on offer range up to an impressive 5TB utilizing traditional spinning hard drives. There are also SSD variants that come in capacities up to 2TB and offering read speeds up to 540MB/s. These models can also with drops from up to 9.8 feet making them quite resilient and an ideal choice for the road warrior.

The new Seagate branded drives on offer include a new FireCuda 510, which is targeted at gamers. It uses fast NVMe flash storage in capacities up to 2TB. As you’d expect, the speeds are blinding fast with sequential read speeds of 3,400MB/s and write speeds of 3,100MB/s. This is joined in Seagate’s new range by the new Backup Plus Ultra Touch that features a new fabric texture offering a tactile feel. There are USB-C and USB 3.0 variants as well, but these come with a more standard metallic finish.

The drives will launch across late January through to March with pricing details to follow.
